New Nexus Functions/Features

Pronam

Recommended Posts

There are dozens of new functions added or changed with the new version of IP.Board and the manual modifications of Dark0ne.

If you find one I'll add them to the list, as a lot of them are useful but not many know of them!

I only added the forum-stuff for the moment.

New.Changed BBCode: (Yes there'll probably be a page about them as well.)

The *s are put there to ensure they won't turn into bbcode, of course..when you use them remove them.

Here is the whole list of all existing BBCode, which is available by pressing the ?/help button at your post-editors.

[*spoiler][*/spoiler]

A new spoiler button that hides large amounts of texts

And can have sub-levels as well.

Twitter:

[twitter*]Username[*/twitter]

Apparently links towards twitter when you add your twitter-username: @_Pronam_

Media button

[*media][*/media]

Instead of having to add several buttons for different media like youtube, you can use one button for all.

Put in the FULL link of it, not just a part: *http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acCfnwTpdxU

It's figuring out yet how much different ones as I only tested youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acCfnwTpdxU

[*snapback]Postnumber[*/snapback]

You can redirect to posts now, so if you want to refer to a post, simply put in the post-number.

This isn't the number of the reply in a topic, but the factual post-id on the forum. To check that one, simply click at the #(number)-reply number at the right top of a post, then it'll be the last set of numbers in the link.

This one refers back to this post being number 1645103. 1645103[/snapback]

[*member=The name of the member]

If you want to refer to the profile of a member without having to look up their page, but you know their name. You can simply put in the name of the member and it'll link to him or her automatically. Like me: @Pronam.

The link buttons remained the same of course, but they have a new color and have been underlined.

[*hr]

Short for horizontal rule. It can be used to divide your subjects within a post more easily.

[*email=email-address]

I don't know if it'll be spam proof, but email has been added.Email me

Many recommend using codeboxes or just not displaying your email at all Beware of Spammers/spambots!.

[email protected]

Additional features

Profile

The profile went under a massive change and looks a bit more like facebook. As comments take a somewhat bigger role...

A new option is to state your 'status', which basically allows you to say a few words easily to any that visitor of your page.

If you wonder where the user-rating went, it went the upper right (stars again of course.)

It also shows the reputation that'll follow next

Profile Card

When you click next to a member their name it'll show up a little box which looks like a combination of the member card and the four options of showing the profile/topics/posts etc.

Now it shows the last activity and last time online of the member as well. Saving you some time in the online list or profile trying to find out what they are doing or when they last showed up. It also shows the manually set 'status' that you can change at your profile and the reputation.

They'll also show up next to 'friends' when you're watching a profile.

Forum settings

I think this one is new: You can set any to be followed/subscribed by ticking a box there if you have posted in it.

If you're a premium member it'll show up another box about your subscriptions, this one can be closed however. (I don't think it shows up if you're not premium.)

The same goes for Recently added topics, which be shown on top of that at the right.

Watched Content

The 'watched topic/content' takes a bigger role in the navigation as they will be shown at your right as you're at the mayor (sub)forums. You can add any topics or forums if you want and it'll track if there are new posts. Simply by Clicking on 'Watch this topic' or 'Watch Forums' it'll be added.

For the modders this offers the ease by following your own topics and just regularly viewing it from the forum instead of going to the file sites to check.

You can also show the topics and forums you're following without new posts by using the toggle button.

To remove them simply go to the forum/topic and click the Stop watching button or go to My Settings->Forums->My Subscribed...etc.

Messages

(Personal) Messages underwent a big makeover and turned into 'conversations'. So basically you've got your own 'topics' as replies can be added. This is particularly useful when you have a long discussion with another member and so the problem of too many quotes is evaded as you can simply look back to the top. Other than that, all replies are added to that same topic, meaning you won't have a lot of messages to delete.

These conversations will end if one of the two deletes the topic, after which at the other a delete mark will be shown so the conversation can be saved but not replied to anymore.

To enable the movement of messages, create a new folder. Then after a page refresh the 'Or Move To' option will appear with your current folder displayed along with the other options (delete, notify..etc.etc.)

To save your conversations, simply go to a conversation and you can print or download it. So no...not a global feature, but as it'll be more likely you only want specific conversations saved it'll just be as convenient.

At the moment it seems to be the case that replies won't fill up the inbox, so keep replying instead of sending new messages/convos!

Yeah, I think it's sort of disabled right as being set to 0 for the max reps a day. Maybe it's internally discussed what's best number yet.

I haven't had time to take a look at the reputation system yet. Either it will be disabled and the kudos system will return or the current kudos points will be transferred over to the rep system and it will be changed to only allow positive points as with the kudos system. Something for me to look at once this upgrade has properly reached completion.

Pretty sure there is. I have a little box in my

"edit my profile information" page that has my

custom title in it.

I assume it gets enabled when you reach 500 posts.

Also, will there be additional skins, eventually? I like them all, but I prefer

the layout of some of the bright ones, and the color scheme of the dark one

as it doesn't hurt my eyes as much.

Even if not, it still all looks great. A great job.

Yeah, I think the regular titles just got 'updated' with the forum. And not everyone loves the 'addict' part after ...250/300+ posts.

At 500, if the rule still applies, you should be able to Evandar. So 44 to go for you.

Posts are easily spend commenting on files and images. Unless you spam as then it'll be turned to 0 again :P.
