Image Links in Tracking Centre

Hello. It seems that, around late April, links to new images in the File Tracking Feed stopped being generated. It still lists the change, but the clickable link that goes straight to the image is gone. Was this intentional? If not, could it be put back? It was handy and saved having to go to the project page and locate the image manually. I'd think it would be a minor bandwidth-saver for the Nexus. This occurs for all three sites.

Thank you,

Greg

  • 2 weeks later...

I noticed this a couple weeks ago, I checked the Tracking Centre - File Tracking Feed so see what I'd missed because I'd been offline for a couple weeks. As best as I can tell, links for images uploaded to individual files seem to have been disabled simetime in the mid-afternoon of 26 April 2010. I did check for any sort of announcement about it but couldn't find anything, I did mean to make a post about it but I've been a little busy. I did wonder if those image links may have been disabled because they did by-pass any restrictions on image uploads for individual mods that may have been set by the mod author. But that can't be right because all the image links up until about mid-day of 26 April 2010 still work fine!

I'm now wondering if everyone is affected by this, because I'd have thought there'd be more comments about it than just this one! Anyway, I'd also like to know if this was intentional or not. If it's not then could the error be corrected please? If it is intentional, could we at least be given an explanation? Or, if I've totally failed at finding the announcement about it could someone provide a link please?

The problem was that when linking the images and especially the mirrors if they got deleted then they'd still be linked, either causing deadlinks in the case of images or the link would still work and be visible in the action log for mirrors. The links were dropped some time at the end of April.

Aye, I had run into that a number of times, but it never bothered me. I'd just get the "image is missing" page and move on. I always knew what it meant.

If people were getting confused, one alternative solution would be to elaborate just a bit more on the "image is missing" page about why it might be missing and not to go complaining about it. :)

Anyways, thanks for the response.

I don't think the image links were really all that much of a problem. The primary issue that prompted that code change was the mirror links. People would post links to mods or sites that are not allowed and we (moderators) would delete the mirror links but the action log still retained the links in the history.

Ah, I see. That makes sense. I suppose an alternative would be to strip out links to non-nexus sites but leave any nexus links intact. But perhaps that'd be too involved for the benefit, or not cover all scenarios that are causing problems.
