It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time 39.2[54]

First Steps in Response

The zelenites would have launched underground attacks except that the area was worked by the Wayomatyr defensively except for 'sacred sites' that the zelenites would never go near for reasons unknown to the Lunatyr. Zelenites would not waste their numbers against cunning booby-traps and ambushes. Unlike their selenite cousins, the lower gravity adapted zelenites were in far fewer numbers.

Five defenders had died, being four Terran soldiers and a single Lunatyr warrior. Over 1,000 zelenites had been destroyed by defensive weapons but mostly by the missile strike from orbit.

Clearly the zelenites were inexperienced with dealing with more advanced weaponry but that might change far too easily as the zelenites were quite adaptable.

Human scientists examined some captive zelenite survivors and many dead bodies and parts of bodies. Much was soon being learned by Terran biologists but also by other specialists.

When Mulder, and Scully, appeared amongst the specialists to examine the creatures nobody appeared to see it as odd. It was assumed that they had come through the teleporters, that they were some kind of megahumans if not metahumans. That is for Armstrong, and some of the megahumans, who knew this was not true. Scully, and Mulder, were now in three places at once, at the same time but that was about to change.

Amanda met the pair in the big, converted, cave chamber serving as a forensics laboratory that was also an early stages research facility. Specialists were moving around in AH-suits or were busy at work stations. There were big isolation cubicles where zelenite bodies, and parts, were stored for study and three armored ones where three living zelenites calmly studied activity around them.

She spoke. "You are powermutants of a particular special ability to be in more place than one, at any particular time, but is it more than that?"

Scully nodded. "Yes, there is more to it than that, but we will speak of that later."

Armstrong walked up to the others from where he had been standing with one of the captive zelenites. He stopped and he spoke. "The selenites and zelenites no longer fight each other; the selenites hired the zelenites to attack us. The selenites provided the zelenites with generous amounts of bio-resources of the kind that both peoples find most necessary to survive and even to thrive. The zelenite queen is wary for the zelenites have had to give up some of their independence in the agreement but zelenite survival has been becoming more tricky since the appearance of new threats and the increasing power of old ones; the zelenites do not mean the Lunatyr even with Wayomatyr gaining new resources and secretly passing such onto some other Lunatyr factions despite that not going with the agreement signed with Terran government."

Sashagal stepped up to the others. "We Wayomatyr are the largest of the Lunatyr Factions, especially since we took on many former Protomatyr who were forced, or wanted, to leave that faction because of its growing oppressiveness of its own. We have also absorbed over a dozen smaller and fragmented splinter factions. A Terran woman, and Lunatyr man, copulated and she is pregnant; we have promised her factional membership, the child getting that automatically. The man is being punished for attempting to deny his responsibilities as the biological father."

Sashagal: "But we are easily outnumbered by a growing alliance of Lunatyr factions falling under the influence of a largely unknown new leader of the Moonmatyr, a faction that comes fairly close to being as large as our faction is though far less disciplined and efficient. It also has a dark reputation, being far worse than that of the Protomatyr who are the first faction of Lunatyr that was created by the Fanelord13. The Wayomatyr were the second faction created."

The Wayomatyr woman kept on speaking. "We need to make our reliable allies stronger and to strengthen our ties, with them, stronger. Lunatyr refugees are coming to us from the growing Savathool Compact, the alliance being formed by the coldly ruthless new leader Savathool of the Moonomatyr. He is Lunatyr but of enhanced physical and mental abilities. He brags that he can easily live in heavier gravity environments. He is not wise, is arrogant, and is corrupted but at the same time he is coldly efficient and disciplined in many ways. This new threat has arisen with shocking suddenness."

Mulder spoke to her. "Why were the Protomatyr launching those glimmerpods?"

She frowned. "My people still do not know for certain except for an unconfirmed story that they were paid to do so by no less than the new threat, that is Savathool himself. He sent them trade-goods and made promises, for more, that have never been kept. The Protomatyr have ceased to do any business with him because of that and other reasons; they sent a messenger demanding what had been promised and Savathool sent back the messenger's mutilated body despite that the messenger had gone under a truce banner. That was a very deep breaking of interfactional rules and indicates Savathool's true nature; he is not to be trusted even to keep rules that were created for common sense reasons serving the interests of all factions! The Protomatyr also got rid of the glimmerpods because they are very dangerous, for they are filled with glimmermist of undeath. They do not know where the glimmerpods came from except that Savathool sent them messages where to find them hidden in isolated cave chambers.."

Lunatyr, Wayomatyr, Protomatyr, Moonomatyr, selenites, zelenites, glimmerpods, Savathool, the Savathool Compact and other details indicated a pattern but there was not yet enough information to make it clearer, to answer a few questions that needed to be answered.

Armstrong, the Eternal Seeker, frowned and knew he would have to call more upon special capacities. Doing so always too much care and he was restricted in how much, and how, he could intervene in mortal affairs.

It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time 40.1[56]
It Seemed Like a Good Idea At the Time

There were growing tensions in the Known Ordered World of Terra, a growing push to send a large scale colonization expedition to the Lunar Overworld. Yet many did not see the point of this, for there were ways to make changes in the Known Ordered World that would more than solve population problems for centuries to come. At the same time a smaller movement was forming to allow a colonization effort in the Terran Underworld, an idea that the Havenlanders automatically, and very strongly, opposed.

The ANZFG was facing pressure to break the treaty with the Azorines and to 'free up' some of their territories for come use; the government resisted strongly. The treaty was part of the Federal Constitution and backed up by signed international agreements. Others wanted Forbidden Areas to be opened up but there was less pressure for this to happen. Security intelligence services discovered clues that a powerful manipulative force was behind what was happening but this surprised few. There was a powerful reaction to the pressure, many non-Azorine people supporting the Azorines including non-Azorine indigenous Australians and NewZealanders.

Dragon sightings were increasing, even over major cities. The Havenlands accepted such as normal and dragons actually dwelt there as did other types of dragonfolk. Most folk considered dragons to be no real threat as they had only ever attacked in self defense but some seemed eager to use them to put fear into the population.

UK Prime Minister Harold Saxon gave out a press release explaining that he had traveled to Ayers Rock City to meet with the ANZUR VicePresident, who was actually an important part of ANZUR politics, being Amie Winterhouse. She knew Saxon was dangerous and was wary of him, only meeting him in a secured neutral setting. They had a nice long chat in which old alliances, and agreements, were confirmed. They discussed matters of trade and Saxon brought up the idea of the UK leasing part of Australia for commercial space launches. Winterhouse knew that other nations had such agreements with the ANZUR so she had no strong reason to refuse it but she did refuse to allow Saxon to lease his choice of territories; it was too close to both a Forbidden Zone and to Azorine Territories. They parted ways amiably enough but Saxon was annoyed and Winterhouse was even more suspicious than she had been before; why was he really in Ayers Rock City, what was he really up to?

The 1975 Olympic Games were coming up, to be held on the large Mediterranean island of Olympua, as they were very ten years. Every other ten years they were held on the big Pacific Island of Paradisa. Winter Olympics had their own four cities. Then there was the Special Olympics of 'special classes of athletes' that went where the other Olympics did. For the first time the Havenlanders would be sending teams to the Olympics.

It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time 41.1[57]

Before Everything Changed; As Things Changed

Petrol prices going up yet again, the flooding getting worse, the increase of rationing and shortages, the heating up of the world, and growing hunger even in the so called better of domecity of Perth. Bobbie made his way carefully along a side-street, being dressed in tough dark clothes so as not to draw too much attention. He openly carried a pistol holstered at his hip and on the holster his registration badge making it legal. A young adult as he was, Bobbie carried a briefcase of cash and unsigned promissory notes that were worth a good deal. He was also carrying some other items that were even worth more. The armored, heavily locked, booby-trapped briefcase was chained to his wrist.

The heavy rains were falling, thanks to a part failed attempt to stop the Greenhouse Effect, but the dome was letting through a light rain; this was being done because there were problems showing up with the dome's design. The rain was filtered and warmed a little. In shelter, Bobbie noted the rain splashing off abandoned cars. Petrol guzzlers could be found all over despite organized efforts to pick up and recycle the valuable metals. Hybrid-electric cars were mostly in use and there were very few privately owned cars in action. Corporate, NGO and government leased vehicles were common, including special purpose machines.

He made his way past a grassy building space now fenced off and guarded by authorized militia. There were goats, chickens and a small food-garden. Bobbie had no liking for such petty corrupted local militias who did not care much for the poor but who gladly fed the black market. Yet he had been forced to deal with them and now moved up to a heavily armored gate and pushed a button.

A surely thug came up to the gate, a scar faced woman with very broad shoulders and a mean look in her eyes. She saw it was Bobbie and became more wary, knowing he could easily beat her in a fight. She just nodded. "Frankie is in his office. He's expecting you."

Brandt, the woman, escorted him to the office for appearance's sake though all there knew Bobbie could easily take them all on and win. Frankie was sitting in his plush, slightly ripped, leather office-chair and was going over some documentation. Brandt departed in a hurry, not wanting to be involved in anything that happened in that place, especially on that day. Frankie was going to do something stupid!

Frankie had oddly glazed eyes. He was drugged on something expensive, and nasty, something cooked up by an illegal biotech laboratory. Despite past disasters with genetically modified crops, the biotech industry was still both important and profitable. Frankie was thinking dumb, was thinking only as an addict looking forward to his next 'fix'.

He grinned horribly at Bobbie. "Got to double future prices or I go to the 'gov' and reveal our little arrangement."

Bobbie shook his head. "That will not happen! The last promised delivery of food, to the Order of Compassion, did not happen. It appears you have fallen victim to superdrug addiction, most likely mindflowerin. You always did have too much liking of substance abuse and not the strength, or desire, to fight it. It is time for you to answer some questions."

Half an hour later Bobbie left the office. A dead Frankie was sprawled across the floor. The safe was open and partly emptied. Some other items had been taken. He paused only to tell the others, in that place, to quickly grab some loot, to be fair about it or his 'people' would be annoyed, and to make sure everything was secured before they left for ever. His 'people' would be taking over a few minutes after they left. After Bobbie was gone, that was just what happened.

Bobbie went to see Frankie's unhappy family and was soon having them, their pets and a few other things moved to a safer, more comfortable, abode as protected by trustworthy, efficient, militia volunteers.

It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time 42.1[58]

Timelords in Conflict

Saxon strode along a tunnel quite deep beneath Ayers Rock City, a tunnel that had been there long before modern humanity had arisen first, in the supercontinent of Africa in what had become a Forbidden Zone, let alone before the first Australian humans had come to be. Non-human peoples, prehumans, and others had been all across the world and continued to be in much of the world.

Saxon knew of the Timespace Event, that had led to the Timespace Transformation, but relatively little of both. He desired more knowledge so that he could use it to build the basis of a new Timelord Empire. It was an insane plan, that was bound to fail, but he was insane and could not see the truth of it, did not want to see the truth of it.

With him were his bodyguards, who were far less human than they looked, who wore security fatigues and body-armor, who carried military class weapons. All of this was illegal because government permission had not been obtained to use such gear and it would not have been given anyway. The rogue Timelord did not care.

Lucy Saxon was in the rented penthouse suite, was heavily sedated and closely guarded. She was also naked and with out access to clothes. Harold Saxon found this to be most amusing just as Lucy found it humiliating though such tricks had increasingly less effect on her.

Saxon wore what his bodyguards did, including body-armor, but did not carry any guns. He did not need them. Then they were meeting the Azorine criminal outcast. He was a big mean looking man with black-red tattoos burned into his forehead and cheeks, branding him as unwelcome in Azorine society. The tattoos were also a record of his awful past crimes, his past punishments and a harsh warning for him to do no more wrong. The man was sullen, was full of angry self pity and was quite ripe for Saxon to manipulate. In truth it was going to be too easy and the idea bored the Master.

Bruno spoke through two missing teeth. "You got the money?"

Saxon had been preparing to be charming but gave up on the idea, realizing that the Azorine would care nothing for such things. "Yes, plus a bonus, but only half up front. You get the other half when you show us the AraAncient power-artifact."

The man grinned. "You think I am stupid because I have black skin?"

The Master snorted. "No, I think you are stupid if you think you can play games with me. He is yours but only as far as agreed; you can have more of him later."

Bruno looked puzzled and then frightened as the three smooth black spheres, each about a metre wide, formed out of mid air. One darted at the Azorine with frightening speed and engulfed his whole head in a very swift, weird fashion, with a globular extension that slipped out of the body. The man did not have time to make any real reactions and then he was just a flesh-puppet of the dreaded Toclafane, creatures from beyond the 'end of the universe' that had once been the very last humans seeking salvation in a place called Utopia that they never found. The Toclafane became creatures of evil, inhabiting the flying spheres, as they began enraged at what they saw as their betrayal by the Doctor, by existence itself.

Timelords in Conflict

The Master waited patiently, as much as he could, while the toclafane processed the captive man. Then the head was released to reveal a blackened, burned version of its old self. The corpse collapsed to the floor of the tunnel.

The toclafane spoke in a voice of cold, distorted, hatred that reminded Master of the daleks, it being similar if not the same. "We-I have done what you asked. This man was a trickster, was somebody sent to lead you into an ambush, but we-I gained reliable useful information from him. Now we would feed upon his body. After that we will lead you through the maze of tunnels to where there is an important power-artifact. We do not know how useful it well be to you, to us."

The toclafane were oddly honest, for their generally evil nature, which was why the Master did not want them speaking directly to humanity unless it had to happen. He nodded. "Happy feeding. My bodyguards, and I, will move a short distance further on and wait for you there; we do not wish to be splashed by blood and gore."

They did so and soon the three alien creatures were feeding with much violent gusto.

It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time 43.1[60]

First Steps in Response

Mulder, and Scully in Ayers Rock City had traveled through tunnels beneath Ayers Rock City, guided by Azorine scouts, and escorted by ANZSAS Soldiers. When Scully, and Mulder, met Mulder and Scully, they went from being four to two people but only in one fashion.

Scully, and Mulder, were stared at in amazement by some who did not know of their special powermutant abilities to be in more than one place, at the same time. They had used this trick to have a nice honeymoon while still working and a few times both had used it to babysit Scully's niece.

There were items being taken from the ancient alien alcoves, lots of items, a few to be examined and many to be used on a practical basis. The bigger, more complicated, the items were, the longer they took to be replaced. The first aeroship had been carefully brought out and had been placed in a big chamber where it could be studied. It was even more impressive, in some ways, when people got to open it up.

The two XFiles Agents walked through chambers where many alcove provided items were being examined. Most were much like, if not identical, to those well known in the Known Ordered World. The items seemed to be from a wide range of historical periods from a late 1800s steam locomotive to a solid-state smartwatch, from a World War Two American Sherman battletank to a low orbital communications satellite of the late 21st Century, from a vinyl record using jukebox of the 1950s to a Viking dragonboat of many centuries before and much else besides.

Drawn towards an argument, the pair confronted a Federal Government official speaking loudly, arrogantly, to an Azorine Elder. "Taxation, taxation, taxation! The government always demands its fair share in taxation."

The woman elder frowned but spoke calmly but firmly. "This is Azorine Territory and because of that we will pay no tax on any of the items taken from the sacred site chambers. It is up to the Azorine people as to what happens to the items though we are open to negotiations."

The man scowled. "You have the aeroship that must be given over to the ANZFG. The same is true of the war-machines that you have. I will order the ANZSAS Soldiers to..."

An ANZSAS Soldier, a sergeant, broke in. "You do not have the authority to do so. The military is not under the jurisdiction of the civil service, including the Ministry of Taxation that you are a public officer of. We have run a security check on you. You came here under false documentation, claiming that you are of higher rank, in the Ministry of Taxation, than you are."

Scully looked at the man, who was flushed of skin as well as sweating and trembling lightly. "Sergeant, please detain this man and secure him with care. Do not let him bite you or come in any real close contact at all."

The special forces soldiers moved in with impressive speed. They dropped the man and Scully sedated him. Experience had taught her to always carry some 'extras on her' and now she had even more thanks to the merging with the 'other Scully'.

It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time 43.2[61]

First Steps in Response

Scully used a special kind of drug to knock the man out, being one less likely to react negatively to the presence of Necrodol in the man's body. She tested his blood, using the small medical post in the caves, and soon found that the man was dosed with relatively small amounts of Necrodol. He was on his way to dying or worse.

The man's identity was false and not of great quality so it did not take long to learn this. His fingerprints, photograph and DNA were not matched by data on any files but then again such data-networks were still basic and growing in size and sophistication. It would take various agencies, searching older type data systems such as filing-cabinets full of files, to hopefully discover who the man was.

The man did have a strange golden symbol on the black disk face, of a black ring, on his right hand. It was of a golden wheel, perhaps a game-wheel.

Scully gave a start and then spoke to the others. "This man has two hearts." She went on investigating and found that the skin was of an odd quality and that the hair was the same as were the eyes. Yet she could not really find the reason for these and other oddities.

Graham Maharg stood there, almost as if he had always been there. "He is a Timelord, more specifically a Timemaster of the Timelord Faction of arrogant fools who waged the TimeWar against the Timelords of Gallifrey, who became known as the Timeguardians. The Timemasters caused the terrible endless war, of wars, on Skaro and the creation of the terrible species that came from there being the daleks, the cybermen, the nestine-autons and the clonemaszi, along with others not so evil, not so famous or infamous. The daleks are the worst, with strange abilities and a secondary shared mentality along with a sociopathic drive to totally dominate the universe. Yet there is another evil species that has come to this world, thanks to the evil of the Master, a criminally insane Timelord rogue who has brought the monstrous Toclafane here from the very end of time for this universe."

He frowned softly. "I am of the Eternal Guardian, am the Eternal Guardian, and my task has been to be guardian of ancient artifacts of ancient peoples who were classed as 'living goddess-gods'. What does that mean? The meaning of that changes, has always changed and will continue to do so. What is this world? This is the Earth, this is Terra, and Terrans will spread out through the universe, through the multiverse, and will change as they do so. Terrans will timespace travel into the past and future, will travel to alternates and create alternates. One can not go back and change the past but only create alternates, some being more 'solid' than others."

Graham: "The peoples of Skaro are the descendents of Terrans who traveled into the past, including those who have become distorted such as the clonemaszi, the cybermen, the daleks and the nestine-autons. The Toclafane are descendents of Terran humans who traveled into the far future. The Toclafane did not find Utopia but others did so for Utopia was, will be, a safe pocket universe between greater alternate universes. Skaro has also created wiser people, of special abilities, such as the Kaleds, Thals, Jandals and the Unititti."

Maharg sighed. "From the humans who survive in the pocket universe of Utopia, descend those who travel far back in time to occupy a world that becomes known as Gallifrey and from those changing, evolving, humans rise the Timelords.

There is another group of Terran humans, also struggling at the 'ending of the universe', who are rescued by bored Eternals of the Abyss. To survive, the humans are transformed into the HumanEternals of which we, the Eternal Guardian, are one."

It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time 44.3[62]

First Steps in Response 43.3

Mulder, and Scully, realized with surprise that all around them time seemed frozen somehow and everybody else was in the same state. Only they had heard, had memorized, what the Eternal Guardian had to say.

Mulder spoke. "Why all of this information, all of a sudden?"

Graham Maharg frowned softly. "Because it is all being threatened by a potential disaster that would destroy this universe and damage many others. The key to stopping it is right here, right now, in this solar system. It is related to the AraAncients, the TimeWar, the Timelords and much else that are related to each other. There is a limit to how much we HumanEternals can intervene and how we can do so. The two of you are far more than the powermutants that you have assumed you are, though you are still powermutants. You have to discover the truth, of your primary nature, yourselves."

He sighed and they realized he looked less tired. "I have had my own rest and recreation, taking the opportunity to quietly sort through my knowledge, my plans, to let go much and then to let it return to me. I have some gifts for you but they will come to you one gift at a time. I am always with you and have always been so."

Then he was gone almost as if he had never been there. Around them things returned to relative normality. So the man was a Timemaster, a Timelord rogue who had helped to wage the terrible TimeWar that had caused so much death, destruction and disruption through out timespace. Yet they were even more puzzled, and curious, when it came to their own mysterious nature.

They had been left with much to think about.

It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time 45.1[63]

First Steps in Response

There were more 'experts' arrived from Terra, being mostly through the use of spaceships being constructed on the ground and in the Lunar Overworld. Some were still being assembled at Spacestation Hope. Moontown had expanded with amazing speed and, using teleported prefabricated sections, had built more machines.

Word came that changes had swept through the United Nations and that the United Nations Civil Military Security Regulation Authority had arisen. The anachronism was the UNCMSRAA and soon many were calling it the CMSRA just for convenience. The rise of the CMSRA took many by surprise, it being done with much cunning and brilliance along with some treachery. The CMSRA's first action was to 'question' the Havenlands 'special membership' of the United Nations and to try to put into doubt its right to belong to the United Nations in a way that supposedly gave it many privileges. What the CMSRA representatives did was to put forth mainly distorted half truths that were well met by counter arguments put forth by Havenlanders and others who had their own reasons to oppose the CMSRA.

The CMSRA was soon being called the CiMiSeRA or 'Cimisera', with the second letter of each word being used. The Cimisera was soon making enemies but also friends and wary allies as it backed up agenda to colonize the moon, to force the Havenlanders to give up more technological secrets, to colonize the Underworld and even more extreme ideas such as 'annexing' the Havenlands of the Polar Regions, which would have been to start a war.

Armstrong had gone to the briefing sessions on what was coming from Terra and was concerned, as many were, with the rise of the Cimisera and its actions. Yet there was much more concern about the forces behind the Cismiser, that is the same secretive forces that had been pushing many of the same general agendas as the Cismiser was now doing though in a very formal diplomatic fashion.

Amanda, of the Havenlanders, herself an omnihuman, was most angry and yet pleased that at last hidden enemies of her people, of all megahumans, were at last starting to show themselves more. She stood watching activity, in a big cavern chamber, where copies of the EagleOne and other AraArtifact alcove items were being recycled, adapted, or otherwise reused to serve current needs. The LunaRovers were being adjusted, upgraded, but so were everything else. Many items were used just as they were. The upgraded EagleOnes were sometimes being used to launch stuff into Lunar Orbit, the old mission modules being picked up and adjusted further at the spacestationship for more uses as small, enclosed, zero gravity work stations.

Armstrong came up and stood by his wife, they had married in a brief but well attended ceremony that had been internationally televised as the first Terran wedding 'on the Moon'. The Terran mass media had sent people to the Lunar Overworld and there had been a series of carefully regulated special broadcasts made. That is mission briefings, the first wedding, a full on low gravity basketball game, scientific experiment displays of the effects of low gravity, the first episode of a new talk show called 'Showtime From Luna', short documentaries on what was going on and even one documentary on the ancient alien artifacts.
