Adamastor
my criteria for what makes good music is similar but diferent: the beat neads to tickle the mind while the actual music/vocal should have a certain power to them whilest still transmiting an idea, ideal, opinion, or fealing. i like some rap songs but only the more agresive ones (dr.dre has a few goodones) , i also like stuff from all over the board: trance, dance, techno, metal, heavymetal, industrial, even some deathmetal, but i strongly dislike general pop. there might be a song or two i would like but not many. as long as it has the power and meaning to stimulate my mind and/or body then ill listen to it more than once. ill give most things a chance for a few seconds but after that ill change station/chanel/whatever. as for rap continueing to live, i think it'll take a long while for people to grow out of it but who knows... Ghorgareth
IMO the eighties sucked big time for music and fashion. :P [...](older) U2 [...] Hmm. Contradicting yourself. The (older) u2 were in the 80's. And by the way. There is nothing as sweet as 80's synthpop.
Peregrine
"Personally, I think the 70s were an awful decade, musically speaking" Heretic! How dare you insult the best music ever created?!?*smacks you in the head with a stack of Led Zeppelin cds, followed by stabbing a Lynyrd Skynyrd cd between each rib*
grenthar
all music evoles from each other just as people do i personally dislike most "classic rock"because of one hearing it all the time and two for the messages they imply although alot of the new stuff is just as bad now i do like all types of music punk and alternative are my fav so just tune out the stuff you don;t like and enjoy the stuff you do but don't condemn the musicians or the type of music they create
DiseasedPunk
It's all about 80's punk and death metal. Classic rock is still pretty awesome. Bands under this label have "talent" which a lot of people overlook. [HUM][ANS]. nerve agents, megadeath, slayer, Agent Orange, operation ivy, black flag, social distortion, strung out, tiger army. '70s had some awesome music. Skynyrd, Pink Floyd, Aereosmith, Allman Brothers, Cream, Moody Blues, Zeppelin, the list is endless. ...er, it also had that disco thing, but we can ignore that for the nonce <_<
ThetaOrionis01
"Personally, I think the 70s were an awful decade, musically speaking" Heretic! How dare you insult the best music ever created?!?*smacks you in the head with a stack of Led Zeppelin cds, followed by stabbing a Lynyrd Skynyrd cd between each rib* Noooooooooo..............not Led Zep......my intelligence circuits are melting!!!! :P *deflects assault with the Shield Of Aural Dexterity* :P Seriously, I cannot stand Led Zeppelin, or later Pink Floyd or anything in that genre - I find it over-blown, pompous, self-indulgent verging on the ridiculous and simply taking itself far too seriously. But that's just my opinion - and as I believe we've agreed, music is a personal thing. You cannot force another person to like the same thing as you do.My husband and I agree to disagree on our musical tastes.....that's what headphones are for, after all :D But we don't diss each other's favourite music from the start - each of us listens to the other's new cd purchases first, and only then do we slag it off. So I won't drag him along to gigs by bands he dislikes, and he doesn't make me listen to Bjork. Acceptable compromise. :D

Adamastor
i honestly dont get byork, i understand how certain people can like things like pop and 70's music, but byork?! shes ugly, her voice sounds like a lp that went thru a shredder, and the videoclips simply suck. who listens to that? how does she make all that money? i just dont get it
tranquility
So what does qualify as good music? Maybe Alice In Chains ;) Just teasin' ya. Well speaking from a eclectic music lover point of view, all I can say is that musical genres and the "ability" to classify a certain band and put them in a genre freaks me out. One of the albums I reacently adored was Justin Timberlake's (the name eludes me), but, just to give you an example, I'm a fan of Alice In Chains, Death, Bjork, Portishead, Pearl Jam, Bach ( yes it's "clinical" but one of my favs :D ), etc. So to sum it up for me, good music for me is music that I like listening to, and that's it. I personally do not care what other people think of me when they find out what kins of music I do hear.
