ub3rman123
I saw my brother playing it earlier, and I hadn't heard anything about having to pay for it. So I assume so. It looked like a pretty fun game. The graphics are excellent for a free game, better than WoW's.
Halororor
As far as I know, it used to be subscription based, then went free because few people were interested.
evilneko
Yes, DDO is free, in much the same way many Korean MMOs are free. It's actually fairly good. I played it for a while. Free players will run out of content though unless they grind like madmen.
Vindekarr
I played ddo for a short while when it was a subscription game and I wasnt too impressed. its just what the title says it is, d&d, online, think of neverwinter nights 2, but instead of mindless automatons to interact with, its the usual mmorpg cocktail of basement dwelling ubergeeks, very young children, and hormone crazed teenagers, third world platinum farmers, and worst of all, cynical chronically grumpy people like me. I did not enjoy this game or like it or even respect it, the combat was like a very lackluster oblivion, with both you end your enemy bashing away at eachother until he falls over, it didnt even have special attacks for melee or ranged characters, it was just a right to left or left to right. magic was even worse, starting mages often had only 1 hitpoint, which made tanks like me furious as they often overestimate their power and immediately run to their deaths, which is a bad thing since you can only use a heal station once per misio, and because even though reviving is a skill, it is a waste of skill points, lastly, they didnt just stay there till you came to get them, they had a bleeed out timer, which was short, so you revived them immediately or not at all. bad design considering how mentaly challenged most wizards were.. the magic system was ok, but generaly speaking I think it was simply ridiculous just how fragile they made them, one stray aoe or arrow and BANG! whole group crippled till someone can revive them. lastly, this isnt a game for homophobes, the outfits, atleast all the outfits I saw, aside from the robes, are ridiculously tight, especialy on male avatars, especialy from the waist down, no problem for bisexuals, gays and women, but a homophobe will have a fit in this game. aside from the flaw that you cant wear anything other than armour, (not even jewelery or a cape) I would also say that what armour I saw was a bit misproportioned, the upper sections were often quite bulky but often layered over a very thin individual, the result looked bizaar, huge chunks of armor layered over a thin little runt, typicaly with no armour at all on the shins and feet, which only made the effect more laughable. finaly. patches, if you pick this up, you better have a fast internet plan, patches are long just like lotros, and after all these years, there is gonna be a lot of em.
