Valkasha
Needs relief on the blade part, an indent or a sharp divide between the two halves, it looks too round now. Sort of like that: http://www.knifemakersdatabase.com/CustomKnivesGalleries/CustomKnives/CustomKnivesPolk/PolkDamascusDagger14-1024.jpg Edited September 21, 2014 by Valkasha
simsim899
The blade is definitely sort of rounded (refer to my previous post) - not meaning the edges, but the blade itself. Can't tell if it's a texture thing or a mesh thing but I think it's the former. Okay I think I get what you mean. I'll work more on the texture then - on the edges of the blade maybe if I make it look more worn it'll look less round. Also thanks for all the other comments, they're very useful :) Oh and yeah I did make a normal map, but I just made it using the GIMP normal map plug-in. I'll check out that link on normal maps though, thanks!

Part of it may be the texture but it needs some relief from the simple flat blade. Also just found this on norm maps: http://www.darkcreations.org/forums/topic/6526-normal-maps-quick-photoshop-tricks/ Dark Creations has some good tutorials. I guess then I'll try and make it more prominent :)
kibblesticks
Definite improvement :) One way to define the individual parts is to make them slighty lighter on the vefy edges where wear would naturally occur. A bit of shape-specific wear will do wonders.
