Enchanting a crossbow?

How do i enchant a ranged weapon. do i hav to enchant the bolts ,arrows .

Ive put an enchantment on my crossbow with poison 5pts target and set it as cast when strikes , but i dont think it worked , and it wouldnt let me enchant the bolts?

You can enchant a crossbow/bow normally but any enchantments don't apply to the ammo. If you look at the bows in game you can get they all have enchantments on them that you cast on yourself. I put Fortify Strength on to offset the weight of all the ammo I lug around.

 

As far as I know with arrows/bolts/throwing weapons you can't enchant them, however chitin arrows from a Daedric bow will still damage stuiff that is immune to normal weapons (think the bow means you can damage them), not sure if it works the other way (never tried).

 

As I have only tried to enchant a mass amount of arrows don't know if it may be possible to enchant each one individually, but it may be possible to do that, if a little fiddly and a waste of soul gems (may be worth using cheap soul gems)

or, u cud just raid ancestral tombs and kill skeleton archers. they always have enchanted arrows on em

So my poison crossbow that i enchanted dont work then , had a feelin it wasnt .

pity that as my Char' has a high marksmen skill and normal unchanted crossbows and bolts are rare enuff nevermind enchanted ones

hav to try the enchanting single bolts just to see if it works

the only thing that would work on an enchanted crossbow would be something in the constant effect category, but i don't think amping up your marksman skill would be worth it with the really low number of enchant slots.

Well, not constant effect at least. On my bow I've got a +27 marksman for 30 seconds spell, which is long enough to deal with most targets.

You cant actually enchant arrows or bolts if you could it would be done individually. You CAN enchant throwing stars but this must be done individually which will take you quite some time. Maybe someone will bother to make a quick mod that allows people to enchant arrows/bolts 1 at a time. But then its not really nessary just head to vivec to the fletchers in the foreign canton (Added by an official plugin) there you can buy bows crossbows and enchanted arrows bolts for them you can also buy arrows and bolts that do radius damage. For your bow why dont you put a constant fortify stat or something on it does wonders.
