blacksmithkazuma
OK here's the feed, I love oblivion, who doesn't. No matter what I seem to do, I use Oblivion tweak guide, low settings, everything and I still get crappy FPS ( avg 16 - 24) what is going on? It is the only game I really play like this all the others are RTS's (Black & Wihte 2, Stronghold 2, Ect.) with awsome FPS. Any Ideas? Fonger
1 - what resolution are you using 2 - have you installed any eye-candy mods 3 - have you installed QTP3 - notorious for draining FPS 4 - have you experimentally turned off sound - yes it can drain video by draining CPU 5 - are you using streamline - if so, it can take over and keep your fps where it wants it. 6 - don't expect 60 FPS from an 8600 - heck 40 FPS is pushing the envelope 7 - have you installed any performance enhancing mods 8 - have you turned off grass 9 - shadows sap FPS - have you turned this down ---- WAY down
nosisab
Oblivion is demanding, although adequate your CPU can't get you far... this game is notorious for sound issues and does not like onboard sound cards much, hence Fonger's advices are sound (no pun intended). Had you said you can play Crysis (for example) with quality levels and steady 40+ FPS the comparison would be more accurate. With a Phenon II 965 BE OCed to 3.8GHz (on each of 4 cores) and a 9600GT, an offboard creative audigy sound card and several performance and tweak implementations, the game still can go under 30FPS in some places... Yet, Oblivion is not a FPS game and if you can manage to get above 20/25 FPS without lag (lag in PC games is more related with input devices, like mouse and keyboard) it flows nicely.
