Dune

I was wondering if anyone had the thought for making a TC (if that's possible) of Dune. I'm a huge fan of the series (Brian Herbert's blasphemy notwithstanding) and I feel that the series has received the short end of the stick as far as gaming goes. The only problems I can see is the liscensing issues, ornithopters, worms, making realistic sand, and the technology (can't make lasguns or maula pistols).

IDK, I'd love to try my hand at this, but I'd only write out the plot and storyline for it. Bah.

I'd have it run paralell to the first book's timeline, with the beginning perhaps some years prior to the events in the book and the ending taking place at the books ending, or even at the ending of Children of Dune.

I've given up on seeing a game with the Dune theme that I would actually play, having a chessboard with thopters just about amounts to the same thing for most of what I've seen. But then I dont enjoy the 'civilisation/strategy' game genre. I dont get involved enough.

As for Brian I tend to think of him as a documentary maker, trying to fill the gaps in between. But his writing doesnt have the complexity of his fathers.

To answer your question, the life of a Fremen in a Sietch would make a great piece of gaming. Has making it crossed my mind? No. Thats just based on the whole MEMod experience, of which I've only read.

But no matter how many movies, mini series and games comes out, I can always go back to my book. And I do.

the Dune RTS game was interesting. It was also really difficult, for me at least. While it had some good action pieces, the story was sort of bland IMO.

What I mean by Dune receiving the short end of the stick in gaming, I mean it in regards to RPG or FPS (with RPG elements). I have the westwood RTS Dune 2000, and while I enjoyed it some, I wanted more interaction with the environment and characters. Something only an RPG could offer. Which is what surprises me. There's so much depth and things that one could do with a Dune RPG, I can't help but wonder why no one has ever tackled it before. IMO it would be much easier to make than MEMod (licencing issues aside).
