Rhydderch Hael
...light armor is probably the best bet. It's weight and encumbrance are much lower, so you won't be as crippled speed and casting-wise.A mage who is unskilled in Light Armor will find their casting ability crippled— even if their mobility, encumberance, and sneaking is not impaired. Light Armor would be the safe bet for more or less a pure Magic character, but they'd have to have some skill in that field in order to project the full power of their spells. Ottomus
Im thinking of starting a mage game (as you can guess from that question ;) ) so im asking a little 'noobish' questions. Sorry about it :)So my question is; If you start with a mage, you dont take any weapons at the start or any armours? Then how can you get it started? I mean, you cant kill anyone how can i survive cos i dont have any spells at start? :(
Switch
Actually, you do have spells at the start. If you look, you get Flare and Heal Minor Wounds soon as you start in the chargen dungeon. ^^ If you then set your class to have different magic skills you get a bunch more spells as well (like choosing Alteration will give you a few low level Alteration spells). It should all be enough to take care of those low level enemies. As for weapons, you can use staffs, which require no weapon skill, and just fire spells for no magicka cost. You can get one from the Goblin Shaman in the chargen dungeon.
cactoblasta
I've found being a mage to be much easier than just a straight fighter. You don't have to learn how to block effectively and nor do you need to be any good at the mildly complicated melee fighting system. You just stand back, hold down block and fling fireballs as fast as you can cast them (holding down block increases your casting rate). Armour can of course help, but it's not essential. If you want to play on hard difficulty you should plan out your major skills, but if you don't it doesn't matter really what you pick. You can always train up minor skills and change the difficulty if you've made a mistake and can't beat enemies at higher levels.
