Hi,

 

a question because of you are using the WMV codec for your files. I had a quick look into the program which i use to convert the videos. For WMV it shows only WMV V8, not V9. I think i have it with my Windows 7 installed. For AVI it shows the MPEG-4 AVC/h.264 which i always use.

Maybe my Encoder Tool don't support it? Or do i have to do some configurations to use it? I use the XMediaRecode, a nice little freeware tool.

When I do AVI, MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 is what I use as well.

 

When I did the WMV however, that was when I was on my WinXP box. I had installed Windows Media 9 Encoder. Windows 7 does not include that encoder either.

 

Doing a little googling around, it seems you need to install WM9 Encoder in Vista Compatibility mode, then apply a Vista hotfix to get it working correctly.

Thanks LHammnds for the encoders, the installation went without a problem, in windows 7. This is in pro tough.

I'm using Power Director, I bought it because it handles AVCHD from my camcorder so well. I use WMV for game footage on Youtube because the files tend to handle movement quite well at lower bitrates, I only get around 80k up on my line so I can't be making huge great files. Youtubes encoders seem to like it as well which really helps.

in PD you can choose WMV V9? I had the problem with the movement with the videos i've done with Jessi. Has taken me ages to figure out which rate is the best.

 

I have done the installation and it is working with the Media Encoder. But two things, it needs double the time of divx and i can't choose v9 on other encoder proggies. For example, i tried to recode 40min of a HD ready (720p) movie recorded with fraps. It was done after around 25min with divx (720p:2500kBit/ MP3: 128kBit). With WMEnc it has taken over 1 hour..., and i wasn't able to choose the bitrate :confused:

 

Maybe Microsoft doesn't want me to use it :unsure:

Yeah it has plenty of options..

I use the HD standard which is 720p 6000kps, you can customise each setting if need be.

Oh, nice. I think that's the difference between freeware and software you have to pay for.

I've usually stuck with freeware but at the time I couldn't find anything that handled AVCHD well.
