ub3rman123
Recently, while working in GIMP, I somehow accidentally moved the tool option section outside of the toolbox pane. I thought I could just drop it back it there, and I couldn't. I Googled it, and it said I needed to find a tiny spot nearly invisible to drop it, and that spot wasn't there. I tried closing the program. Didn't work. Tried uninstalling it. Didn't work. Tried uninstalling it, deleting everything program files with the word GIMP in it, and reinstalled it off a fresh newly downloaded .exe file. Didn't bloody work. In my anger (I was working on a t-shirt design that was due at 8 AM the next day and it was 11 PM), I somehow also managed to completely mess up the layers and channel selection window, which skewed out into several separate panes. Where is the button for just resetting the UI on GIMP? Is there one? Am I stuck permanently with the tool option buried under the tools menu box? How is GIMP so good at memorizing the user setting that it persists in keeping them even after a clean reinstall? Here's a screenshot of the irritating thing, if that happens to help at all.http://i1023.photobucket.com/albums/af356/ub3rman123/GIMP.jpg?t=1280606908
ub3rman123
Okay, I found the program while rooting about in some things to add stuff to the Quick Access Toolbar thing. There's a folder in C:\Users\(User)\GIMP 2.0 that holds you settings. Delete that, and then start up GIMP, and it'll regenerate the defaults. Reason I never found it was because I hadn't expected it to stick stuff outside Program Files. Also, the uninstall doesn't seem to delete it. Well, here's another problem I have now. The DDS Converter doesn't work on Vista/Windows 7. I'm trying to install the DDS plugin for GIMP, but I don't understand their instructions to install it at all. Can anyone give a guide on how to install the plugin properly?
Skotte
<SNIPPED>Well, here's another problem I have now. The DDS Converter doesn't work on Vista/Windows 7. I'm trying to install the DDS plugin for GIMP, but I don't understand their instructions to install it at all. Can anyone give a guide on how to install the plugin properly? I use GIMP as well & the "dds.exe" goes to "lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\" under the GIMP installation by default it's typically at "C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\". the exe is for Gimp to use directly, not us the user. Hope that helps
ub3rman123
It's supposed to be an .exe file? Crap, I found I had downloaded the wrong one. So, what's the .tar file for then?
Skotte
It's supposed to be an .exe file? Crap, I found I had downloaded the wrong one. So, what's the .tar file for then? The .tar is just for the people wanting to modify the .exe but if you just want to have GIMP be able to use .dds files you just need the .Zip file & extract the .exe as mentioned previously. Hope that helps

LHammonds
Or you could have grabbed all the required programs from TESNexus along with detailed install instructions.
ub3rman123
Wow, I hadn't even expected that to be hosted here. I'll have to remember that next time I need it; saves me a lot of Googling.
