Aurielius
@Aurelius, Governments always redistribute it's peoples' assets. Usually to the rich and powerful and sometimes to others. When it redistributes those assets to the poorer end of society, such as the unemployed, at least that money gets spent back into the economy via shops etc. Did anyone ever find out where that 5 Trillion missing US dollars went? Is anyone actually looking (as opposed to saying they're looking) and does anyone believe they'll ever find it and if so, will they tell the truth about where it was?Oh.... I did not realize that the rich do not spend any money, employ others or invest in business. So they sit on piles of gold coins in a vault like Scrooge McDuck? All governments do not redistribute wealth but Socialist ones do....Last but not least, which trillion has gone missing? With the all the trillions added to the debt by Obama it's a tad hard to keep track. Congress spends it like it was monopoly money anyway.... and you want accoutablity......get in line at the rear, it's a long queue. @Aurelius, I didn't say that the rich don't spend any money (although they never spend as much, relative to how much money they have, as the less well off), it's just that when people complain about the poor being given money by the Government they forget that money gets spent back into the economy. All governements do redistribute wealth. Partly to pay for its armed forces, partly to pay for roads, partly to pay for Law-enforcement, partly for government 'projects' (new computer systems, High-speed railways etc.) partly for what amount to bribes to either big companies, other countries or voters etc. and often it is partly to pay for the education, health and welfare of it's people. As far as I'm aware, there was about US $ 5 trillion went missing in the years before 9/11. Apparently there was going to be an enquiry about it. Maybe the little I've read about that was wrong. There is a very large difference between equitable taxation and wealth redistribution, though the former may be a vehicle for the latter they are not equivalents. Grapes and Bananas are both fruit that still doesn't make a banana purple.

IndigoV
I don't mean to take the wind out of the OP's sails, but you should read this article, written by a popular conservative writer, before assuming at an election with the lowest voter turnout in 70 years(36% turnout compared to 2012's 56% turnout) is somehow a mandate for Republican policies. Democratic policies are still more popular, and that pans out in every election where there is more than 50% voter turnout, and in states where there is more than 50% voter turnout. This conservative writer predicts, along with other people paying attention to public opinion, voter turnout, and demographics(as well as the Senate vulnerabilities of Republicans in 2016), that Democrats are going to have a huge victory in 2016. http://blog.chron.com/goplifer/2014/11/the-missing-story-of-the-2014-election/The Republican party is as unpopular as ever and they have locked down the government, which has led to reduced voter turnout and enthusiasm among some who vote Democrat. Congress's popularity is at a historic low, no doubt due to their corporate sponsored ineffectiveness and gridlock Also, a lot of Democrats are disenchanted with Obama's lack of a progressive backbone. The Democratic party isn't "left" enough for it's base while the Republican party is increasingly out of touch because it is relying on a decaying older white demographic that is out of touch with the rest of the country on key issues. Chris Ladd also has a good article on how the Republican party could turn this around, and what policies they should adopt to do so(skip to Bold titled sentences for the policy content)http://blog.chron.com/goplifer/2014/11/a-republican-agenda-that-could-win-nationally/ Edited November 24, 2014 by IndigoV
HeyYou
The midterm elections certainly were NOT a mandate for republican policies..... they were a mandate AGAINST Democratic policies. Given some of the stuff the ol' Barack is doing at the moment, he is going to seriously annoy a significant percentage of the population. That is NOT going to bode well for the dems election prospects come 2016. Sure, we have a couple years yet, and the repubbies have the opportunity to truly stuff things up, and move opinion the other way.... if they can avoid doing something stupid, and they actually put up a candidate worth voting for..... the Pres will make sure we have a republican victory then....... I don't quite get WHY the pres is shooting himself in the foot with an RPG here..... the majority of americans DO NOT want amnesty, or whatever you want to call it for illegals, they want them gone, and our borders secured. No one in the democratic party seems to be able to get that thru their head though......

He's doing what the Labour party did here, flood the country with people more likely to vote for his party, have they started calling people who question the policy "Racist" yet? they will at some point. Aurielius
Let me see..if we let the illegals stay but do not give them permanent status just who will they be indentured to?.......Senor Presidente Barrok and his party.......or so he hopes. Who will pay for his largesse..we will. To hell with what the majority of Americans have said over and over....NO Amnesty. Personally I say fill the Rio Grande with Hippo herds....then see who really wants to cross badly enough.
