Affter re-installing Skyrim and installing mods I attempted to start Skyrim up via SKSE. Crashed to desktop at the Bethesda logo - checked the papyrus log and found the following messages:

[11/07/2014 - 12:00:06AM] Papyrus log opened (PC)
[11/07/2014 - 12:00:06AM] error: Native function GetUseSound in empty state does not match existing signature on linked type Potion. Function will not be bound.
[11/07/2014 - 12:00:06AM] Update budget: 1.200000ms (Extra tasklet budget: 1.200000ms, Load screen budget: 500.000000ms)
[11/07/2014 - 12:00:06AM] Memory page: 128 (min) 512 (max) 76800 (max total)

This also occurred if starting via the Steam loader. After uninstalling/reinstalling the same thing occurred. I have since located the reason for the crashing!!!

In the sound folder are fx and voice directeries. The voice structer is all good and has the following labels for the files:

Name Date modified Type Size

The fx structer is faulty and has the following labels for the files:

Name Title Contributing artists Album

I even deleted the fx folder and manually created a new one and installed a mod that had fx only files with the same results as the origionally game created fx folder.

Knowing the individual files in the fx folder should have the same labels as the voice files and this being a new install the question remains ( a virius scan was done the day before my last install )::

What is causing the labels in the two directories to be different?

Any help will be greatly appreciated

If you get CTD immediately after the Bethesda logo, you are missing a Master file. Download and install Tes5Edit, and select all files, and see what Master files you are missing. Or double check the mods you're running, and see what is required.

Windows automatically sets those types of folders as Music/Media files ,which displays them like that. You can change how it appears in the Window Settings (different for each version of Windows),

I see the same thing in the FX folder, you are seeing that because the files in the folder are .wav so windows defaults to the sound type listings...name , title, contrib Artist...it's normal.

The files in the Voice folder are .FUZ, and since windows has no clue what they are, it just gives the name , size & type. Again normal as even it you try to open one, WIN has no clue.

Download TES5Edit...install, Start and click OK to what was pre-selected for you. IF...

IT finishes without ERROR and lists ..."Background loader finished" then its not a missing Master.

IF

It Stops and Says " Editing is disabled" it will list the mod that is causing the Error in the Right pane, Fix it, or Post the last 20 lines here ...someone will help.

If you're not using Mod Organizer, use it. If you don't want to use it, use it anyway. With NMM and other mod managers, I could barely run 50-100 mods without the game constanting crashing and a multude of other problems. Currently using Mod Organizer, have 210 mods, and the game runs like a dream. If your game has any conflicts, it'll tell you where the conflict is and even tells you how to fix it. I have yet to start a game and CTD instantly due to conflicts, since using Mod Organizer. Has saved me tons of headaches. I can't reccomend it enough. Using anything else is like living in the dark age of modding. It has a ton more benfits too but I won't go into it, you'll just have to experience it for yourself.

Thanks for the assistance.

Found the CTD mod - it had a Dawnguard or Dragonborn as its master ( tes5edit works great but you have to be able to read/understand what it tells you is wrong). Removed that mod and all works fine now. Thanks for the info about the WAV files in the fx directory - wasn't aware that windows/games did that.
