FPS Optimizer missing registry key?

For the past two days I've been playing this game using MGE and the FPS Optimizer. So I take a break and quit the game like normal, and when I come back, suddenly neither of them are working. MGE straight up crashes and doesn't tell me why, and whenever I try to run FPS Optimizer, I get an error that says

[FILE: D:\Morrowind.My\mw_fps_opt\source\mw.cpp; LINE: 19]
The system cannot find the file specified.

[ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND] can't open
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind
registry key

The only mods I'm using are various graphics mods and Speed and Stamina. It literally went from working flawlessly to completely broken just from quitting the game and turning it back on an hour later. This is my first time ever playing morrowind and I'm enjoying it immensely but I can't play it without these fixes mostly due to the FOV. I'm pretty pissed because I see absolutely no reason for this to have happened. Please, someone out there help me fix this. Thanks in advance.

Dude...

I just switched from my old, crappy pc to a new, custom-built gaming rig, and I'm trying to get FPS Optimizer to work on my new pc, and I get this weird error I never got on my old pc. Only using Morrowind Code Patch, no other mods.

We're in the same boat, and according to Google, only 2 other people googled this specific error besides us! :D 2 other people! And every post has 0 responses, so I think the only ones who know anything about the errors are the ones receiving them.

Hopefully this is resolved soon, I want to play Morrowind. XD

For info, Morrowind will create the required Registry keys when you've launched the game and (IIRC) got as far as the main menu.

Temporarily rename the DLL files MGE (or MGE XE) uses (check the archive you downloaded for their names), don't start FPS Optimiser and then launch Morrowind. Get as far as the screen for a New game and quit. Now try launching FPS Optimiser and then Morrowind, hopefully that'll have got the Registry back in order. Rename the MGE / MGE XE DLLs back to what they were.

After 3 hours of searching and testing I got the fix, search "regedit" in your Start Menu and open it up, then locate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\bethesda softworks. If you don't have a folder called "Morrowind", than click Edit, New, and then Key, and call the folder "Morrowind". Now go to: https://www.regfiles.net/registry/the-elder-scrolls-morrowind-registry . If your computer has more than 2 gigabytes of RAM, download 64-bit (almost every computer is 64-bit, if you're not sure, download 64-bit). If you're computer has less than 2 gigabytes of RAM, than download 32-bit. This file is PERFECTLY SAFE and I have scanned and tested and used it. If you're on Google Chrome and it says it could be dangerous, click "Show All Downloads" and then click "Keep" on the file. Once you have downloaded this file, go back to regedit, click on the folder "Morrowind" and click File, Import, select the file and import it. Now launch Morrowind FPS Optimizer, and it should work perfectly. The reason why this bug happens is because your Morrowind Registry is missing, I have no idea why it deletes itself, but at least there is a fix, I'm pretty sure I'm the only person that discovered this, so share this fix on other forums with people having this issue, thanks!

Actually, you don't even need to import the registry file. It's enough to just make a new folder called Morrowind in the registry.
