edgeburner
I was attempting to connect my 83 YO mothers new tablet to my wireless network when what should appear in the WIFI listing?....'FBISurvalianceVan'That one was listed in the WIFI connection list?Funny thing is, I could not connect to my mothers tablet to my home WIFI when this connection was listed. Believe me, I tried for over an hour. When it "disappeared" The connection was established .Next thing you know, I'll be hearing strange noises in my closet in the middle of the night. :)
kvnchrist
Have you considered that someone might have been using another wi-fi in your area and was pushing more power than your unit?
Vagrant0
This is actually a common thing that people do in areas where you have many people within the same sort of wifi "bubble" to both be funny, make their connection stand out, or just discourage others from trying to patch into their own wifi. I would assure you that any official unofficial FBI/CIA/NSA vans that might be rolling around wouldn't call themselves something as obvious... Only partially because the techs don't know how to re-designate how a connection is named.
JimboUK
My neighbour uses "The Serial Killer Next Door", there's more here (Strong Language) http://www.buzzfeed.com/jessicaprobus/no-more-free-wifi#.cwzG2RzYME
Beriallord
Appears to me to be network ID trolling. You can change your network ID to anything you want. Although, its not a very good idea to be impersonating a federal agency, and whoever does it might just get the FBI knocking on their door, and the troll attempt completely blows up in their face. bben46
"FBIsurveillancevan is actually a common WIFI name (SSID) - originally used by a few jokers, but picked up - with variations by the kiddies that read reddit CIASurvelancevan32NSA ...KGB...Make up your own SSID. Just don't make something you will forget six months from now when you need to know it. edgeburner
I would assure you that any official unofficial FBI/CIA/NSA vans that might be rolling around wouldn't call themselves something as obviousI have often wondered about the "hiding in plain sight" method of disguise. This is exactly the type of thing I would expect of a government agency that has no real restraint hobbling them in their attempts to gather information. i have connected numerous devices to my WIFI over the last couple of years, and, never had such lengthy connection issues before. Next thing you know, I be hearing Barack Obama's voice in my closet...whilst wielding his pen and phone. J. Edgar Hoover is still scheming and adding to his list.... and Jimmy Hoffa arises. Edited January 5, 2015 by edgeburner

Apparently you've never met the American Government. Sure, they can collect data... But that "lack of restraint" can be a limiting factor in both the types and quality of data gathered as well as ultimately how that data will be used. If you knew about Government and actually sat down long enough to think about it, you would probably realize that much of those regulations and red tape exist solely to prevent people doing utterly stupid things while making the public pay for it. The NSA simply hasn't been around long enough yet for people to notice all the places they've outright f*#@ed up or spent millions of dollars researching people's porn habits. I didn't even need to sit down!) , pondering information garnered from a variety of sources. Some regulations are on the books to do exactly as you stated....Some are mere covers, veiled in the guise of what you stated....just ask FNC reporter James Rosen, or some folks from the AP news agency. Granted, they are not every day grunts like you and I, but, us everyday Joe's and Jane's are usually the last to know. ....about just what exactly is being documented, and, the technology used to spy......Yeah. I said it....SPY. Although I am torn when it comes to what Edward Snowden has done, It none the less gives one reason to suspect and wonder. ToMossad. We are watching you. XDNo need for them to watch us.....The CIA /NSA can handle it on the home front.....The so-called regulations don't really regulate them.
