ljenk
After doing just about every vanilla quest, hitting casino jackpots, clearing out the gold from the Sierra Madre, The Inheretence & New Vegas Bounties and hours upon hours of random looting, my character is obscenely wealthy, even after buying just about everything he could ever want. I'd love a mod that lets you put those riches in to all of the settlements & towns across the Mojave. I realize that would be a pretty big job, so I'd suggest only doing it with the areas that need it the most like Westside and North Vegas Square. This is how I imagined it would work: You give a certain amount of caps to a trustworthy person (Crandon or Jules for NVS, and Tom Anderson or Klamath Bob for Westside), and after a week or two, the place is cleaned up. -Derelict buildings repaired-More caps and expanded inventory for traders (perhaps add a merchant or two to NVS)-A patch for growing crops in NVS-Clean clothes for residents (nothing crazy, just something nicer than rags and wasteland wanderer clothes)-Better equipment for Westside Militia - Combat Armor, Marksman Carbines, Hunting Shotguns etc.. And guards for NVS, maybe some turrets outside to keep the Fiends away.
JoKelly
I like this idea, maybe even show how some of the buildings are repaired for housing or new shops. Definitely give me something to do with all that gold I have laying around. unless some one makes a mod where I can convert it all into a huge Gold statue of the Courier right on the Steps of the Lucky 38 after House is dead. Manan6619
Yeah, I third this motion. I always enjoy mods that allow me to improve things via cap investments. There's a mod by the name of Nipton Rebuilt that lets you do this with Nipton.
Jokerine
HHHHHHHNG this is exactly the kind of mod my saintly courier would enjoy  I am sadly too busy with a big mod I'm making, and I'm pretty burned out so I may stop modding afterwards (at least until the urge becomes to strong, haha!). I really hope someone can pick this up!
devinpatterson
If you guys come up with some good ideas I'll fold it into the independent NV and NCR NV as well as spin it off into a separate mod. So lets hear some of that brilliant brainstorming.
ljenk
I'd love to see the Followers of the Apocalypse better organized and equipped, they're the only faction my character really likes and it sucks that they're still struggling in squalor even after I've kicked out the Legion & NCR and accrued so much wealth. I think that post-Hoover Dam Vegas would be much more stable if people weren't starving and had medical facilities. Perhaps you could just donate to them and then they open more outposts (maybe even a hospital & science labs) and do the work for you, rather than you running around the Mojave handing out caps to each individual settlement. I'd say that this should be done through Julie Farkas, I'm not fussed about unvoiced dialogue, but if somebody wanted to create one there could be a new NPC to handle this kind of stuff. Danny159
Yeah, being able to use your vast wealth to help all the people in New Vegas would be awesome... ^_^ I generally end up with 100k caps, with all the weapons/weaponmods I need and just stop going out on loot missions... devinpatterson
i would love to colab and write a few ideas for improving vegas via cap investments etc for the independent NV mod once youre ready to take that part of the mod on! how far along are you with that mod? That sounds great, I appreciate the help. I wasn't sure if you were interested in the ind NV thread specifically in re: to philanthropy or this thread which is a more general discussion of the subject. So I took a chance and moved your PM over here. I'd like this to be a discussion of philanthropy in general and that can be applied both before and after the 2nd battle of Hoover. I think a lot of the ideas will carry over whether the courier is pursuing the main quest or whether your in a NCR/Ind and possibly House post game (I think we can probably exclude a lot of the content from a legion occupied NV). Some aspects will be unique to the faction endings, but we can polish them up a bit in their respective threads, and some of the contributors in those specific threads have more knowledge of the faction endings.....so we have some reality checks on lore in those respective threads. Re: Ind NV the improvements (whether militarily, philanthropically or otherwise) are slated for later down the road. I'm initially working just on the immediate after affects of the battle of Hoover Dam. My next step is the strip itself. But it's important to storyboard all of this first, and have it fairly well fleshed out before I start putting it together. It helps reduce mission creep, not to mention the disastrous possibility of making the mod and then changing the plot or quests mid stream. Plus small changes can be implemented in point releases, so the Ind NV doesn't have to have a particular percentage or portion complete to execute it. So let's brainstorm some ideas. ljenk
Just some ideas . Farming - There's plenty of unused land in Vegas and it's surroundings, you have to purchase livestock & equipment and hire NPCs to do the work. Perhaps the tech from Vault 22 or the Salient Green thing could be used somehow?. Food Banks / Co-ops - Much like the ones in Freeside & Westside respectively. Would be supplied by the new farms.. Schools / Orphanages - You could just more or less copy the school at Nellis, hire some teachers & guards. Adding new kid NPCs to them would make the world more plausible too.. Library - would need a medium to large building and a few NPCs to hire, maybe a simple pre-war book gathering quest.
sullyvanj93
further philanthropic ideas: defense- funding the city's defense in hiring/training guards, better equipment, and defensive structureswater- well diggingeconomy- invest in town's traders, upgrading their wares over timeschools- an addition to ijenk's idea, maybe have apprenticeships for the adults so that the town has some skilled workers
