spontaneite
I've also experienced slow image loading for about as long as I can remember being on this site...which isn't that long. A couple years, maybe. My internet speed is currently at 144mbps. All the statics you provided loaded in 1-2 seconds. Likewise, I did a quick check of images on mod pages, and they also loaded much more quickly than I am used to. I would say that in general, images load faster than they used to. I had it as bad as Arthmoor a while back, but in the last year it has improved. Can still take upwards of 10-20 seconds to load some images, though. By the fast loading of images I'm experiencing right now, I suppose I can definitively say that I don't experience the issues all of the time. My apologies for not reporting sooner - I suppose it seemed a relatively minor nuisance to me, and I just assumed it was either a known issue or an extremely rare one. I should also report that I've gone through a change of locations and such in my time on the Nexus. Another note - loading times, right now, are very sporadic. I followed some of the links provided by an00bislite, and while some images loaded instantly, some took upwards of six seconds. DevelopmenthGB
It's typically between 5 seconds and 30 seconds. Sometimes never and I just close and retry. What I've sometimes done on this site is mash the image until it just pops up, since waiting while it's loading extremely slowly seems fruitless, while if you click repeatedly it'll sometimes decide to load quickly. I'm not a computer wizard; these are just my observations. No other website... period... gives me image problems. Like, for real. Not since I was running AOL on my parents' old computer were images loading this slowly. Always been like that on the Nexus, though. Today, images were *okay*, but when I tried editing the Hotfile or Background images for a mod of mine it just wouldn't work. It would load for about 2 minutes and then give me this: http://i.imgur.com/QmKswIo.png?2 I should note that it took me about half a second to upload that picture right there to Imgur, so it's not anything on my end. http://www.speedtest.net/result/4049667304.png edit: And this post makes me seem ungrateful and whiny. Not so! It's just this one issue. Everything else seems great! And there is no other mod site on the internet that's as pleasant to browse. Have you tried downloading GTA mods from the cluster**** of ad-ridden sites they're hosted on? Eugh. edit 2: Oh, and in regards to the Static Server images: 1: 5 seconds2: 10 seconds3: 9 seconds4: 5 seconds Seems pretty negligible. And also very fast for this site. I obviously don't know how the site's set up, but could there be a reason that those images would load "fast," while these images load slowly? Because these ones load very, very slowly (I believe these are the ones other users are talking about, as well): http://i.imgur.com/UW4BaG0.png?2 One last edit: They don't ALWAYS load that slowly. I'd say about 7/10 times they load that slowly. Other times they pop right up. Unfortunately, I can't remember if there was a difference in time of day. I'll keep an eye out for that now. SjoertJansen
Images load slow for me as well. Takes 5-10 seconds or longer on a 30mb download connection. Sometimes, if I simply click 1 image and wait, it can take as long as a full minute, or not at all (I never bothered to wait longer). Coming back later or reloading the page usually fixes the problem. It happens all the time, but not every image, even for the same mod. When I go to a new mod, some images load in less than a second, others take ages. I found a way around it for myself, I now click all images I want to see, and click them again. At some point 1 has loaded and opens up, If it did, all the others have loaded and I don't need to wait any longer. As such I never bothered to mention the problem. I apologise for that. I never use the next arrow, as it seems to be worse using that, but that may just be in my head. As all images seem to load approximately at once when I click them all, it seems the server just takes its time to respond sometimes and loads all those I clicked.... This started about 6 months ago (summer). I always blamed the increase in traffic. Apparently not rightly so. Time of day doesn't seem to matter, but I never actually timed it. That said, at least some images load slow any time of day I have ever tried. (UK) Static 3 took a while for me (9 seconds and loaded from top to bottom slowly), the other loaded within 2 seconds as a whole. Not sure if it matters, I use google chrome and firefox nightly (64bit). It happens on both. http://www.speedtest.net/result/4049851155.png
Chillwill
I've had this problem for a long time myself, always thought maybe downloads were given priority over pictures or something like that. Anyway i have a 50Mbit connection located in norway and when using the links provided in your post i had 25ish seconds load time on static 1 and 4 and instant load on 2 and 3. This is pretty much what i see in image section of mods as well. Some pictures go pretty much instantly and others take more then 20 sec and every now and then they just don't seem to want to load at all unless i click on them again. Mattiewagg
1) 10-20 seconds. 2) All the time. 3) As long as I can remember. My issue IS for enlarging images on Nexus pages, both from the gallery and from the carousel, not loading them small versions. 2 and 4 took very little time. 1 took about 15 seconds, 3 took about 8-10. I have 30 up, 30 down connection. (Tested on SpeedTest.net)US, Washington State (NOT DC)
swjrnexus
My findings on this:The static links included in your message do not seem representative of the issue. They reacted instantly to clicking and loaded as fast as I would expect on my link. I'd say all within a second. The perceived slowness on the main site seems to be due to very erratic and long delays when clicking on the image thumbnails to try load the full size image. Slow as in getting enough time to read the 'Loading...' overlay message several times while waiting, up to a minute at times, and sometimes giving up entirely and just clicking again to make it load. This delay happens I'd say every three clicks or so, so browsing through a mod's image gallery gets annoying.I never noticed any correlation between these delays and the performance of the page loads or the mod downloads. I.o.w., the image enlargement delays happen even when the rest of the site's functions are performing beautifully.I notice some saying they've had this issue for years... I cannot assert the same. I'd say maybe a thing of the last year or so for me; if it happened before that it was sporadic enough to never really bother me, and there was a distinct moment sometime last year when it suddenly became a regular issue that I remember hoping would be fixed soon with your improvements to the site. Don't ask me when exactly though.Currently testing out of NLD, but I've had the same experience while on home/hotel/work links out of ESP, GER, and USA (MI/FL/CA) in the past year, with a rather large variety of links, bandwidth, and computer equipment.I have neglected mentioning this issue here assuming that this was due to some form of bandwidth prioritization, which I happily accepted, especially since I have been using this amazing service for free. Varana
Yes, it's been like that for a long time. I never tried to find a pattern, as I had times when my connection was somewhat spotty, and I didn't want to sort whether the issue was on my part or not. As others, I saw it as a kind of allocating bandwidth to downloads instead of images. In the examples on the first page, all images loaded fine, only 4 took some seconds longer (8 sec). Speed is 4.5 Mb/s, location is Germany. It has become a lot better, in my experience, with the bandwidth improvements of 2014, although I'm not sure if that's real or just selective memory. If it weren't brought up, I wouldn't have thought that it was worth reporting. So from my point of view, don't bend over backwards. ;) I only use the image galleries, never the carousel. Until now I didn't even notice that you could browse through more than 3 images there. :D
craxmerax
I first noticed slow images for the last couple of days. Images always requires atleast 5 seconds before they show up, but most times it's about 15-20 seconds for me. For the examples, the two first loaded within 3 seconds, the third 7 seconds, but the fourth one took about 15 seconds before it was completed. oranges4ever
OOKLA test result 5.29Mbps to a US server (I'm in Australia). Results for images in links 1 to 4: 8s, 3s, 5.5s and 4s. I often find that the first image I click to expand in the carousel loads quicker than the above times, but the second one I click (whether left middle or right) is usually much slower as much as 30-50 seconds. Although some posters have mentioned image loading speeds have always been slow for them, this is not the case for me. Image loading speeds when I joined Nexus around May were fast to very fast and this slow second image problem came at a specific point in time and largely persisted from then on.Sorry that I can't narrow the date down at all for you, other than to say it's been weeks rather than days. Thanks for inviting our feedback on this.Regards. http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4093443034 Edited January 27, 2015 by oranges4ever
