AssAssin40k
Perhaps this is not the case, since I have never been banned before, but I have always wondered why a ban the resulted from something said in the forums/chat/whatever would result in a loss of downloading privilege even from free servers. I can understand making people register to download. It gets more people in the ecosystem. But what is the harm in letting those who were banned be able to download as normal? It will only result in more visits to the site.
Oubliette
I find your question as boggling as you seem to find the concept of banning members from downloading to be.

Di0nysys
Won't they simply create a new account?
AssAssin40k
I think banning blocks your IP address.
Di0nysys
Bans punish i guess, makes it more of hassle for offending users to download. Makes sense to have them.
ShayVizla
Hi Assassin, I've actually been looking through the forums rules and warnings forum and have noticed users who had their account banned were still able to create another account only for that one to end up banned as well. So it seems that unless the mods ip ban someone (which im not sure they can do) the user/s are still able to create new accounts. As for saying things in the forums chat etc. there are rules here on nexus, if someone posts/says something that violates the rules, depending on the severity of what was said the ban length can range from minor to severe. It seems to be an incentive in my opinion to get users to think about what their doing in the hopes that they wont do it again.
Thandal
Being allowed to use the Nexus is a privilege, not a right. That privilege is is withdrawn from those who cannot follow our simple Terms of Service. While Dark0ne put together a fairly long document to explain them, (see the "Terms of Service" link found at the top-right of every page) they come down to two basic things: 1) Don't post material that doesn't belong to you unless you have the permission of the owner/author. 2) Be polite. That's it. People who for some reason cannot follow one or both of those are not welcome and are escorted from the premises. As for the ban-evaders who create new accounts; it takes far longer to establish a new account than it does for us to remove it (a few mouse clicks is all it takes.) And for the most egregious offenders we do have other tools at our disposal to address those cases as well. :ninja: And as for the OP's question: downloading mods is the number one reason people use the Nexus. To go along with that carrot, not being allowed to download mods is the only real stick at Dark0ne's disposal. And believe me, many, many users of the internet behave like mules -- stubborn and unwilling to cooperate!
