One of the things that bugs me the most about Skyrim is the disconnect within the game. The dynamic dialog is terrible. Everyone lives under a rock. Followers offer no interaction on most quests, they just repeat the same shallow lines over and over. Some guards will make some comments about current quests. But there needs to be more of that all the way around and they need to be more on top of what's happening under their noses, not just what's in your quest log. Killing a dragon in Falkreath, then hearing the guards talk about a dragon attacking Kynesgrove is a head shaker. If you want to facepalm the game left and right, try saving the Companions ARK for the last thing you do in Skyrim and listen to how they talk to you.

Skjor: "You need to prove yourself whelp".............Marching into Sovngarde and killing Alduin not enough for you is it?

Aela: I've heard you might be stronger than you look"............"I know right? Double enchanted legendary tempered Dragonscale with a legendary tempered enhanced Dwemer X-Bow does look pretty weak doesn't it?"

The list goes on (and on and on and on)

The prevailing theme of the game is that you are the Dragonborn, but, outside of the main quest and DLC2, it's virtually irrelevant which is the majority of the game. I want to see where the game can keep up with the player and can adjust according. Bethesda really need to step up more in this area. They need to do a better job in making the player feel like they are actually in a single game instead of a dozen little ones.

That's because you're looking at the game wrong. TES gales don't have prevailing themes. They have a combination of varied stories for ypu to engage in, but don't have any consistent or established identity or persona. You're only the Dragonborn if you choose to engage in the adventures that pertain to the Dragonborn's story. It's not like The Witcher where you're Geralt of Rivia no matter what you do.

The one thing Bethesda hasn't tried yet is nautical gameplay in the vein of Black Flag. Moreover, an archipelego setting might rejuvenate the brand. I just can't imagine it working on the engine.

First off, bear in mind that the Engine does not limit anything. Bethesda has absolute control over their engine and can include and modules they want. The Engine doesn't need replacing, simply because they aren't subject to contractual resctrictions that leave them unable to change the system as they see fit.

Second, we've talked a lot about a Black Flag style dynamic over on the Bethesda forums, and there are some problems with the idea... The setting, while it does seem to have cannons, is in a very different era, and contains very different ships. The control scheme would be problematic, even if it forced a 3rd person camera (which they REALLY need to stop doing) because of the variable camera. And, well, as much as I loved Black Flag... That style just doesn't really fit with TES. A spinoff with Cyrus, maybe, but not the core games...

There's definately potential in a more marine-driven aspect, with Yokuda in a Hammerfell game and Padonya in a Summerset one, but Space Exploration is more TES than an Age of Sail thing.
