Problem uploading a relatively large file

I'm trying to upload a 80mb file. But the site won't let me. It always says 'The connection was terminated by the server' after a while. It says that in german (since I'm german), I just translated it - the error might sound a bit different in english. Sometimes it quits after 30mb, sometimes after 40mb, sometimes after 50mb. But it always disconnects. Quite annoying after working on a mod for a few months and then not being able to upload it after all is set and done. I tried to upload a split archive, but 7z puts a number at the end of the archive (like MyMod.7z.001) and then the site tells me that I can only upload a zip, 7z or rar archive. Ha ha. Will probably have to download regular winrar and use that instead for a split archive. Any ideas why this is happening? It's driving me crazy.

Winrar also puts .001 etc on the end of splits too.

Although that is a question that can only be answered by Dark0ne.

For some reason it seems to work with WinRar...but the site still gives me trouble. In fact it is making fun of me. I uploaded a 40mb archive and it disconnects at 38mb. So funny. Really. I've uploaded about 250mb by now and still there is only one 40mb archive available for my file (and the second one is missing). I try to upload the second archive with IE now (been using Opera before).

I never had any problems uploading to Megaupload, Youtube, Mediafire etc. So I wonder what the problem is. Don't have Adblockers either, I think Opera has a built-in script system, but it only warns about scripts running, it doesn't automatically stop them. Java Script is turned on.

EDIT: With IE it works. Seems like Opera is causing the problems here for me. There is no love for Opera! Why? It's the best browser of them all! *cry*

Im going to take you up on that. Installing Opera now. Lets see if it beats the fox 8)

Edit: Nope after 5min I hate it bc of the default icon. lol jk its kinda cool and minimal I think I like it. I always thought it was a Mac thing. Although Im sorry I have nothing useful to contribute to this thread. Call this post a bump and I hope this Opera incompatibility gets more attention.

For those reading this, I have already created a tutorial for 7-Zip that explains what you need to do in order to upload a split archive...instructions that should work anywhere since many sites "rename" the archive you upload. However, this is mainly geared for 300+ MB archives due to maximum size limitations...not problems uploading under normal circumstances.

Splitting Archives Using 7-Zip

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Opera and Chrome have issues with dynamic-page sites like the Nexus. They are 100% awesome for static HTML sites but kinda stink with dynamic (PHP / ASP) sites when it comes to certain features...many of which revolve around login issues.

But regardless, if ANYONE has problems uploading to the Nexus, please do not hesitate to send me a PM. If you have your mod uploaded elsewhere such as MediaFire that I can download, I will attach it to your page. But please try using Firefox first. NOTE: Other staff such as buddah also help authors like this as well....but the key component here is that you have your mod available to download somewhere else first. I had the same issue for ages, only the site must have really hated me because it would "terminate" the upload a bit after 5MB or so. Didn't matter if I used IE, Firefox, Opera, or Chrome. They all died in transit. Didn't matter if I had ad-blockers or no ad-blockers. It didn't even seem to matter if I used my PC or my roommate's PC, which led me to think it might have been related to our network setup. Then along came Windows 7.

I have no idea what the trouble was, but once I made the switch, the failed upload problem went away. I've had no trouble uploading even the largest of the mods I'm involved with ever since that upgrade was done. I don't really know why the OS would matter, but it did.
