Moraelin
A lorica segmentata was really just a bunch of metal bands, so definitely doable with wasteland tech. Bear in mind though that it's also the most uncomfortable plate suit imaginable, and chaffes quite a bit. AFAIK it wasn't worn when on the march or really at any time except when you were lining up for battle or ceremonial duty. In that aspect the lorica hamata (chain mail) was actually a big improvement. The lorica squamata (scale mail) was afaik not all that used by the Romans at the time. IIRC (but I could be wrong) mostly some auxilia used it. What I'd really like if I had to build some armour for that world, would actually be byzantine lamellar armour. A top end suit offered protection like you wouldn't believe. IIRC Alexios Comnenos actually took two direct lance hits by crusader charges and kept on fighting. Granted, though, that's over a millennium after Caesar, so it wouldn't fit the legion's theme at all. Hmm... damn... now I have this itch to give something a hamata or segmentata texture anyway... And a proper Roman shield, though it's probably a bad idea for the arm with the PipBoy. And a javelin or two...
TobiTobsen89
I would love to see some real roman armor on the legionnaires and not this stupid football gear. Can't fight for people who call themselfs Caesars Legion and wear stuff like that
magnanimousmudd
I think that they would at least be capable of chain and scale mail.

Mr Lepidus
I am glad that this is a well-received idea. In game, Caesar alludes to the fact that he took his name after Julius Caesar (Divus Julius), so modeling Caesar's Legion soldiers after Julius Caesar's actual Legionaries would be optimal. http://static.tvguide.com/MediaBin/Galleries/Shows/M_R/Ri_Rp/Rome/season1/rome17.jpg HBO's Rome offers incredibly accurate depictions of Julius Caesar's forces, pictured above. The armor and uniforms are clean and regulated enough to be those of a professional army, but simple enough to be wasteland appropriate. All in all, a good fit. Just replace the Machete with a Gladius (mainz-style) and have the pila replace throwing spears, and we have real Legionaries. Also, the armor of Lucius Vorenus. http://media.elasticpop.com/images/Rome.jpg To repeat, the Marian-era legionarii are probably the best fit for Caesar's Legion. Everything about them seems to fit the wasteland theme, from practicality of arms and armor to the color and nature of their uniforms. Also, we should add an aquilifer to the game, if at all possible.
Moraelin
Caesar's legionarii WERE Marian-era legionarii, so yeah. Well, that is, the actual Roman heavy infantry. Every legion was accompanied by a more or less equal number of auxilia, for pretty much all other roles exept heavy infantry and (sometimes) a small number of Roman equites as cavalry on the flanks. Everything else, from archers to extra cavalry, were auxilia. Their equipment was also good, but generally more suited to their actual role, and as that role generally wasn't that of heavy infantry, it usually meant lighter armour. All of this I know, after all I am a classicist. Average field armies of the late Republic were about fifty thousand strong. Four or five legions served as the backbone, with auxiliary archers, light infantry, pike men, light cavalry and heavy cavalry. All of that, however, is sadly irrelevant to Fallout. If we were to organize the Legion more accurately, though, we could have the different levels of Legionary as different Cohorts in the Legion. For example, the Recruits would be the Ninth and Tenth, the Regulars from eight to fourth, the Veterans from Fourth to Second, and the Prime Legionaries as the Prime Cohorts. We could add in Optiones as warriors half the strength of Centurions and change the Explorers to (Sagitarii, perhaps)? Additionally, the Centurions and Optios could be scaled with respect to their cohorts, unless that's overkill. I'm not sure how shields would work in to the equation, but honestly, I don't see a place for Roman heavy infantry tactics in a postnuclear game. InquisitorChaotic
A mod making guns and especially energy weapons incredibly rare would be great. You could have 10,000 Legionnaires backed up by 300 gunmen and 2000 archers getting slaughtered by 200 BoS with Gatling Lasers.

Remember: 300 Spartans -no matter the extent of their martial prowess- were crushed under the boots of a hundred thousand Persians like ants.
