WastelandAssassin
My first New Vegas character was a male named Fawkes. Just as a tribute to the most awesome companion of FO3, I was quite dissapointed that there was no Super Mutant companion in NV. :( Atleast we got a ghoul! My second character, melee legion character was female. Simply because I thought the idea of a female character who was dead set on joining/helping the legion was fun. Third and fourth characters were also females. Planning on making my next one a male. :) New Vegas does have a super mutant companion, or something like thatit's a Nightkin named Lily (or Lilly, can't recall exactly) who has the creepiest female voice in the game (due to the fact it's not female at all )and she is also a Grandma, or so it seemsdidn't get to play with her, so i can't say if she is as cool as Fawkes, but i guess she has her things
documn
I like to play many characters on these types of games, though usually my first character is male. I play all races and genders, mostly just for variety. Across all the video games I've played where I could choose my gender, I think I'm pretty close to 50/50 male/female, among probably 20 or so different characters. leeshaw85
I generally play a character similar to myself, especially in the fallout series... a "Jack of all trades, Master of none" character, as I am in real life (Don't specialise in anything but am "good" at many things) - I've never really considered the different quest/dialogue options for a female character, but that would probably be the ony reason that I'd bother to start one (To see other parts of the game that I wouldn't playing a male character)But then, at times, my gf seems to get jealous of female NPC's (Like I'd somehow want to cheat on her for accepting a quest from a female.. N... P... C... *Sighs*)... so being a female character could also cause problems... lol

It didn't seem to be connected to anything, and it was just a empty Vault style cell.

BooneoftheWasteland
The only time I ever played a female by choice was Resident Evil 1 & 2. I recall someone said once, that playing a female character while being a male in real life, is like the person(male) plays the role of protector of their female character. So in essence, she's their girl. However on the Nexus, what I found strange, was the guys that would play females, and install Animated Pro and then sleep with guy npcs. That part I haven't been able to wrap my head around...to each their own...
Valasthor
Why do male people install "Animated Pro" and sleep with male NPCS as a female character? Simple question earns a simple answer: It gives so so damn many advantages in the game...Me for example got discount in many shops and a house for free...If you blow ups Megaton you have no problems at all. You will have a good house and only your "father" is unsatisfied with your decision..But good characters are threatened to sleep with Alistair Tenpenny to get a key for a Luxury Suite in Tenpenny house..------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I am straight and dont like to see my male charatcer sleeping with a male NPC..but I respect fa****ts.. --------------------- Te only chance I have seen to get a fair chance without playing a female and using Animated Pro is with the "Black Widow "perk...nuking Megaton....---------------------------------------------------------------------------------And I have always played the game on "hardcore Mode" or "Harsher Wastelands" but no matter what difficulty I have chosen the disadvantage for males where always there..----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ferlith
To address the original post: if you're basing your idea of how many people play a particular type of character based on what save games get uploaded, of course you're going to get a skewed perspective. I get the impression that most save games are uploaded based on how good the character looks, and it's thus wholly unsurprising that straight guys are uploading attractive female characters. I'm playing a male character, but I'm not uploading a save game version of him because, well, he's nothing special to look at. And as to why a guy would want to play a female character: because it's a role-playing game. I played Fallout 3 with a female character because that was part of the identity I'd created, and I'm playing New Vegas with a male character because that's part of the identity I'm assuming in this game. I don't play as "me but in the wasteland" because I wouldn't last five minutes as a wastelander; this game gives me a chance to pretend to be somebody who can fight a Deathclaw and win, rather than get eviscerated. While I'm giving my avatar survival instincts, weapon proficiency and mild kleptomania, I might as well give them a different appearance and personality. Of course, some people do it because they like the eye candy, but that's by no means universal. I am straight and dont like to see my male charatcer sleeping with a male NPC..but I respect fa****ts.. No you bloody well don't, not if you're calling them that.
