zerrodefex
As for the "high NCR rep" guy, THAT is even freakier. That guy was waiting for me inside my hotel room at Novac last night! Also Victor sometimes has trouble catching up to you after completing "Boulder City Showdown."Once I was sleeping in the refugee tent in AeroTek and Victor was watching me sleep when I woke up. "HI THERE PARDNER!"Another time he caught up to me on the road from Boulder City to Hoover Dam as I was about to snipe some Lakelurks, did his conversation, then rushed off into the pack of Lakelurks and got his ass kicked. LobselVith66
Does anyone know what triggers Malcolm to show up? I was planning on procuring his Sunset caps this time but he didn't show up like he usually does (he usually shows up pretty early in the game for me). And neither has the Disguised Frumentarii (I'm hoping to trigger him as well since I have enough rep with them, before Boone and I pay a visit to Caesar). Staghound
Wouldn't it be nice if you could run off a few thousand fake caps at the Counterfeiting Shack, and sell them to Malcolm for all the cash he has? Sudden blinding thought - maybe counterfeit caps are what he is using to pay you when you trade with him!
secksegai
Victor has probably been more random than anyone else. Aside from the first playthrough where I caught him heading up, now I usually run into him wherever, even if its right next to his previous body in Novac. Malcom is more or less triggered by picking up a pre-placed blue star cap then waiting somewhere.Disguised Frumentarii is after meeting Benny, even villified he'll show up to wipe your slate clean with the legion. minngarm
malcom makes a nice psuedo-companion early on, if you see him coming you can kite around objects to let him stalk you for awhile and attract npc aggro. cleared out a good bit of powder gangers that way. also where the hell does he go after you talk to him, he is a working caravan, and often sells .308 rounds in modest bulk... WarKirby3333
I used to think his actions were odd. Then I killed and looted him and it all made sense. Given that he is lying about not collecting caps anymore, and carrying them around even though he knows there are "people" who attack strangers on the suspicion that they have some, he is obviously trying to get you to collect caps and get on your good side so he can swoop in at a later date and kill you for them. The cap he says he saw you find is probably a lure placed by him to find new victims. A tracking device on it would explain how he found you. This The very first time I met him I was playing this game on a friend's xbox. Against his better judgement, I convinced him to slaughter malcolm and we were rewarded with the bottlecaps. Since then I've made a point, regardless of the four different characters I play, to annihilate him ASAP and take his star bottlecaps.

I believe malcolm shows up X time after you pickup a star bottlecap. Not sure what X is, probably a day or two. In my experience I usually get one in primm and he shows up around Mojave Outpost. Vulpes Inculta, in his Dapper Gambler disguise, shows up after you've at least: 1. Spoken to Mr House in the lucky 382. Been inside the tops casino3. Spoken to s*censored*. All of the above may not be be necessary, but he shows up after doing those. From personal experience I can definitely confirm that you do NOT need to do any of the following:1, Speak to benny2. Have the Platinum Chip3, Kill benny4. Let benny escape.
minngarm
You can also just pick malcs pocket, even infront of him he wont attack for it and will still trade after you take everything.
RazorKnight
Ah, ol'Malcom. He's creepy but an amusing sort of creepy. I remember doing the "stalk around Nightkins in the basement" quest (Come Fly with Me) and I was being extra careful not to be notice and then suddenly, *Bam* crazy bottlecap dude shows up out of nowhere. In one game, I found his corpse in the DC spawn in the quarry. Guess DCs don't like crazy bottlecap guys.
BGatot
Malcolm has appeared in strange places too in my game. Once he showed up inside Nipton Town Hall, 3rd floor. At another time he appeared in an abandoned caravan with a bed that I slept at. In the middle of the night too! I was about to pop his head open when he walked into the caravan's wall and vanishes! Creepy.
