Small idea with user info...

<-- See these fields here?

My idea is that members should have the ability to add or remove some of the information here - Do some of us want to show our AP level, rank, or how much AP we have, or even care about it? Or how about some fields some people would like to show, like gender and location?

The forum software itself may not support it - something to bear in mind. And don't forget Dark0ne has a lot on his plate as it is with the Nexus :P

But yeah, I wouldn't mind scrubbing the AP info out and replacing it with location, gender, or even age (lol a/s/l) (optional, obviously. Not everyone would want it up). I don't see the AP info as being even remotely useful to forum users :?

It also lengthens the post size considerably on short posts such as these. By his own volition, they currently have no use, and even if they do, Kudos is a greater form of identification - and that both AP and Kudos are detailing the samething.

Taking up more space = more costs = less profit. I'm not even fussed about ASL. If you're interested enough to start flirting, you might want to check out the profile before you do. If you're not interested enough to do that, then no flirting for you in any case.

No in fact they have no relationship what so ever. Kudo s are given by other members....and activity points are awarded automatically by the system when certain conditions are met.

From what I can tell that is the case as far as providing member-level options here. The various details displayed can be configured by an admin, but it's a global setting - unless there's a mod to add this feature, but I suspect it's not that common a request.

EDIT:

<---- is that a little better? :whistling:

Regardless of the fact, you get Kudos for good work, and you get AP for good work. It's like saying here's a Gold Star for getting an A. And here's a Gold Star as well for getting an A.

Not to mention it's not the number that I'm pleased with, but more the fact that someone's taken their time to thank me and the message contained in that. Having something given for in a sense turning up at work it's not that noteworthy (by turning up at work, I mean post).

And as to getting Kudos/AP - why not combine the two?

But the one is recognition from the "organization", (like "Perfect Attendance", or "Seniority" awards, which many workplaces still have.) While the other is recognition from a person, (your colleague, a fellow Forumite) for the help provided on a specific occasion to a specific indivdual.

And I know which I value more!

Seniority award ? Well, that was a good one. Give it to me!

To be serious, you can't draw any advantage from that, it simply means nothing at all in a virtual world that is busy with banana-like score competitions, the beloved trademark of the brotherhood of man. Too bad.
