Ok, so if we're willing to do that on just theft, doesn't everybody think that we'd do it in regards to an attack on the site?

Rest easy folks, and have faith. Measures have, and are, being taken.

Let's also quit the arguing in regards of the "legal responsibilities of the site, to it's customers" crap. This thread is meant to let you all know that something happened, and to suggest that you take a few security measures of your own. Lets not spam this up with a bunch of off topic posts.

It's not entirely correct if you state if you place public info it's your own fault. Don't forget if you want to download adult stuff here some public info must be met or else you can;t do squad. But this get's a bit tiring last time i got hit by those ad virus and my pc needed a new reformat, now this, what's next ???

Some how I lost two years off my age according to TrainWreck. Must be my number one fan... or perhaps he just has no clue :teehee:

(or perhaps he's just a butt hurt previously banned member who's using his mobile phone to access the site...)

Anyway I have already spoken to the lawyer I have "on-tap" to ask such questions and I am well aware of my position. Email addresses do not fall under the DPA without sensitive information attached to it and any sensitive information users have placed in their profiles is done so at their own risk as per the terms of service for this site that everyone agreed to before signing up. Either way I don't need a half-pint with a clear chip on his shoulder to come and tell me my obligations. If you feel I'm wrong you can try and report me to any agency you think will care.

That aside I have gathered all pertinent information and have it stored in a safe place. The most important thing is plugging the holes and insuring it doesn't happen again not pointing the blame at whose fault this is. That can come later.

It's not that I've ever wanted to blame anyone running this site. I'm aware of the fact that i'm responsible for my own security. On the other hand, I witnessed a copple of viral- and hack-attacks on the Nexus the last copple of years. While they're all weren't lethal, they're still a pain in the butt. And indeed I believe I can request just as much safety from the guys running this site, as I grant to my own system.

I do as well appreciate the honesty and legal actions of Dark0ne and the help he personally granted me, when I faced a potential infection.

Im just asking you guys to grab this hacker by the balls and initiate appropriate countermeasures regarting the attack...and I understand you do...so everything's fine.

Did they also get PayPal transaction records? Specifically ones that contain the user's real full name within, that would tie it to an e-mail address?

It's not that it matters much, but I am curious about it.

Just a side thing... you mentioned "any sensitive information users have placed in their profiles is done so at their own risk as per the terms of service for this site that everyone agreed to before signing up."

I just went to the "Registration Terms & Rules" page and it says nothing of the sort anywhere on there. The only two instances of the word "Profile" are in a paragraph about Avatar Rules, and there is no instances of the word "risk"... so, you may want to consider updating it. (Even if it is just plain old common sense. CYA, ha ha.)

One dude can certainly mess it up for everyone however, I think from what our benevolent moderator has stated previously, that the consequences to the action perpetrated will be dealt with accordingly.

Did you read this part?

What Robin says goes irrespective of whether there has been a breach of the terms of service or not.

If robin says it's in there, even if it's not visible...it's still there.
