DarkeWolf
Pop ups are typically not viruses. They are considered spyware and usually handled differently from a virus. Most Antivirus programs now have anti spyware built in though. If yours doesn't, I recommend either superantispyware or Spybot - search and destroy. Either one will clean out the cookies used to serve those pesky pop up advertisements. IMO, that type of advertising should be banned. Superantispyware: http://majorgeeks.com/SUPERAntiSpyware_d5116.htmlSpybot - S&D: http://majorgeeks.com/SpyBot-Search_&_Destroy_Tools_d2471.html You can run both of them. I have to completely agree with what I highlighted in red. particularly with some of the nastier companies such as fastclick and doubleclick who use their cookies to distribute a wide array of advertisements and cater to companies that don't adhere to anti-spam policies. For the most part, antivirus programs don't recognize them as threats. This is partly because they use common internet code, and also because they are not considered to be "harmful" code. Even tho both companies that I've listed are many times responsible for problems in browsers because of some of the scripts that their adverts use. Which cause conflicts, either by intention, or by fault. About the only thing that you can really do, if your scanners don't detect them is to delete the cookies from that site, add the advertspam site's address to your browser's block list (such as http://*fastclick.net* or http://*media.fastclick.net) and then clear your browser cashe to get rid of any scripts/javascripts that they may have left behind. :(
Dagia
Ah, so that's where all the spam came from. Oh well.
K00L
Hmm I have had some little pop ups come up when I come to this site too, but it isn't that common. Actually what worries me more is this one that keeps coming. When I load a mod page some of them do not show the F3, T, D or whatever as the icon. They just flash the icon and show that its loading. Then when I tried to look at pictures some obnoxiously long and annoying thing came up that said ARE YOU SURE YOU WISH TO LEAVE, CLOSE THIS OR PRESS ESCAPE. Which was a lie, you have to push enter. Trust me I tried. Also happened whenever you tried to go away from the page in any other way. Thats not all though, the images did not do the usual increase in size deal, they actually loaded as a new page on all mods, even the ones without the pop up. It has stopped now, and I didn't have a virus. :|

Deleted1744345User
I only get pop-ups when going to my messages folder after receiving a notification of a new message. I haven't gotten any pop-ups other than that, but is still annoying. If it helps I'm using Norton 360 and Firefox.
K00L
Well this is weird... There has to be something on this site with the pop-ups. Its only here and I am on a different computer than I was last time. So it can't possibly be the whole thing about cookies. Firefox blocks more on this laptop than IE on my desktop, just sayin :P
tekmage
no worries, that's why thee are spam filters. It's not like the majority of people weren't receiving spam before. Don't worry, the pop-ups are just a part of the Nexus's new advertising. Nothing sinister.
