majikmonkee
I've done quite a bit of research on this topic but to no avail. My problem is simple - I'm trying to start a new game as a race that applies to one of the characters from a mod I've played, and the race triggers no dialogue from Valen Dreth. As such, the Emperor and his Blades just stand at the top of the stairs indefinitey, and Dreth moves over to his bars but never speaks. I can think of console commands that would get me out of the cell, but I can't imagine the problems that would arise exiting the starting area without establishing a class or birth sign or anything. Is there a simple console command or workaround that will cause the Emperor and guards to enter the cell without Dreth having spoken to me? MidbossVyers
I think the unofficial Oblivion patch gives Dreth "default dialogue" that he uses if you're not one of the vanilla races.
majikmonkee
Interesting. I tried installing that patch a long time ago and it didn't work (I did it wrong at the time but didn't realize it). Now, I've got like 30 mods installed, is there a chance I'll screw things up worse if I install the patch now? I don't use any kind of "load order" program, I haven't run into any conflicts yet with the mods I use.

I installed the patch after I had several mods already installed and didn't have any problems. But you really should get BOSS to sort your load order. (It will mess up stuff like Better Cities that needs to be at the end of your load order, so you'll have to go back into OBMM and sort it appropriately.) majikmonkee
I'll consider it, thanks. :-) I found a temporary solution in the form of the main quest delayer mod. This isn't my main character, just a small time thief and I intend to avoid combat as much as possible (staying at level 1 and only carrying an iron dagger). Amayakyrol
As said before the unofficial Oblivion patch takes care of it as does customracefix.
