VersaProd
I have Fallout 3 GOTY, and installed all my DLCs before I ever started the game. I've gotten a confirmation message, saying that Broken Steel is loaded, and my character is level 22. however, upon finishing the Take It Back! Quest, by entering the purifier and starting it, I get an ending movie and I'm taken back to the Main Menu. I disabled all my mods; same result. As an added bonus, I can't convince any of my followers to enter the purifier. Well, i can, but Sarah Lyons always enters the airlock and tells me to shut the door. Apparently she thinks she's a Super Mutant. Or a ghoul. Or a robot.

GamerRick
Start by going to the mod pages and seeing if anyone else reported issues with Broken Steel. If that doesn't work, start with all add-on mods disabled and enable one at a time until you find the one that breaks BS. When you figure out which mod is causing it, post it here with a link to it, and I will take a look at it and see if I can fix it for ya. Meanwhile take a look at the Update Unofficial Patch and another one posted in past week that fixes a lot of stuff. Why not fix as many bugs as you can?? M48A5
The usual cause of Broken Steel not starting is that you are using a mod that in some way changes the player character. The fix for this is to use Custom Race Endings Broken Steel Override (CREBSO) https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/6240 It only needs to be active just before the ending and until Broken Steel starts. Once Broken Steel has started, it can be removed from the load order.
GamerRick
So jaderiver, weeks before coming here you made a lengthy post on the mod page of Lone Wanderer Theme. It looks kike you already identified the mod causing the problem. I looked at that mod in FO3Edit and it's a mess. It has ITMs and dirty edits all over the place. I did not see anything obvious that would break Broken Steel. I do not want to spend my time trying to clean and fix that mod, because I don't care enough to do so. It would seem the mod author abandoned it in 2015. So, unless someone (who does care) wants to clean and fix it up, I don't see the mod as being usable in the state it is in. If you want to enable it after BS starts, you can at least get around that. Then you have to wonder what else it would break. It modifies scripts that are fixed in the Updated Unofficial Patch. jaderiver
@M48A5 , I dont use cutom charectar mods of any sort, least not yet, my charecter is purely vanilla and turning mods off sone at a time , haven't tried that yet, since I use very few mods, but bs will start with no mods active it seem, but there's one or 2 mods I really need to have active before hand , as there more a fix it type mod... @ GamerRick thanks for that , and I didn't relise my post was so " lengthy " I try to give as much information as I can without it being too long, but in my google searches , I did find an old steam posting that mentions usingn a console command which I didnt know even existed yet ..startquest dlc03bs1 -- But at which point to use that command wasn't mentioned ... :ermm:  Edited May 9, 2019 by jaderiver
GamerRick
I thought it was strange that you made that post on that mod page weeks before coming here. It looked to me like you already found the culprit. Did you? It would suck to continue on and have other problems pop up.
Mktavish
Ya it is key to do something at the point of the story continuation ... you can't just shoe horn in the fix if BS failed to start.Albeit the quest start should work. It offends the purist approach to keeping your saves as clean as possible. Which hopefully you still have a save from the end of Fo3 vanilla , that you can start and continue from for varied load order scenario's (sounded like you do) What exactly are your necessary mods doing that you need to preserve their effects through the change ? Maybe a bit of patching / geck manipulation could help you through the transition ?
