This just in: Isoku, creator of Wet and Cold, Wet and Cold Holidays, Wet and Cold: Ashes, et cetera, finally explains the sudden release of 2.0 on Workshop: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/articles/50134/?

There is information filtering in that everyone involved in the launch of the system was under a NDA (Non disclosure Agreement), meaning they are legally bound to not release any information about this happening.

We all are angry about the recent SW developments. We all are angry about how Valve and Bethesda want to milk and dime their customers.

But, wait for a second and think. The mod authors themselves work countless hours to deliver their projects. Is it really their faults if they decide to profit off of it? Is it not their right, given the choice? They are just taking advantage of the situation. I don't doubt that many of us would do the same.

Valve and Bethesda are taking 75% of the profits for doing basically nothing. Nothing!

Then, there's the issue of how harmful this is for the community. It drives people off, tearing it apart. This is not helpful, at all.

Don't hate mod authors, hate Valve and Bethesda.

That's my personal take on it.

I don't know what mod's you've authored. But I love you for this statement. I'll be sending nudes to your inbox. :)

What you should monetize is funny mod descriptions, in the form of DLC.

You'll be a millionaire, I tell you!

I just realized there's a gigantic loophole that allows anyone to get the paid mods for free.
The refund process is oversimplistic because many mods might be broken, which allows you to download, copy, get a refund and unistall the mod. then reinstall the copy.
GG valve. yet again you failed

That is unless there is some sort of DRM imbedded in the mod package... Edited by popcorn71

I make icons for Fallout NV and FO3. So I doubt anyone really cares for that because its mostly a skyrim issue.

But I've always gave a wide range "use whatever icon you like of mine for whatever" with the covet of "as long as whatever you're using it for is also free" And that's been long before this was a concern, back when russian modding sites were stealing mods from nexus back in the day.

Seems something I learned from back then will help me now.

This is true. In this day and age, it is damn near impossible to stop people from copying your work. Is it unethical? Yes- but unless you find creative ways to stop it that can't be easily circumvented (certain DRM, or scripts that fire upon detecting a bootleg copy which renders the game unplayable) your only other options are to make use of the pirating as free marketing and hope more people buy your stuff (has been done before), or to not release it.

It is as much a reality in today's world as dying is, and it won't change short of a worldwide disaster that obliterates the internet. And even then, people are still going to see you make something, and copy it.
