Oblivion Music Skipping...?

Running Oblivion on Windows Vista Home Premium, all graphics and sound cards updated.

Oblivion has run fine on my computer with no problems until just now.

One during a battle and again when I was just loafing around Skingrad, the music began to skip hideously. When the song finished or I ended the battle, the next song did not skip.

It has only happened twice and it created an annoying lag when I tried to sleep to level up once. The music kept skipping, stopped and then five seconds later the level up screen appeared. Next song was fine.

What exactly is causing this? None of my mods affect sound and all other sound effects/voices are fine.

Most recently installed mod is WEPON, but it happened once before.

This just really boogered me. Anyone got any clues?

EDIT: All files are clean. Currently defragging - if that has anything to do with it - and removed mods I was not using. Going to see if it does it again. All the music in Oblivion file plays fine on Winamp. Also, it is NOT installed in Programs, if that matters.

Well I do not even play with my music enabled. So yeah. But I have never heard of that issue. I will recommend however that you disable your music through the .ini. It really improves performance on lower-end machines. I personally do not have that problem, but it does add a whole new atmosphere to the game. You will find yourself hearing some things that you have not normally heard before with all the music lol. It is very immersive and quite calming. Especially out in the forest regions of Cyrodiil. I really enjoy it.

So if you would like to know how to do this then let me know and I will post a a little walkthrough on how to.

I hoped this helped you out.

You know, I have actually been considering turning off the music completely for a while now. I really love the music in the game, but I figured that I could always just hook my mp3 player to my extra speakers while I'm playing if I wanted it so badly, hurr.

You know what, sure. If you could tell me how to turn off the music, that would be great. That seems like the only option I have right now to fix it. :/

EDIT: Dug into my .ini file and turned music off. Getting better fps and no more music errors. :D It also stopped ctd-ing when I exit the game to, for some weird reason...

(Took me a while to make it work - for some reason, Oblivion doesn't use the oblivion_default.ini in the bethesda folder - it used the oblivion.ini in my game saves folder. 0_o Who knew?)

Getting rid of the music has really made the game real now. I never knew what Daedroths sounded like until now, hurr. Awesome.

Thanks for the help Elsarian. Kudos to you.
