censorship

I believe that censorship enforced by law or public majority is a cancer on free human society. Those things which are most often used as justification for censorship would otherwise already be illegal because they violate somebody's actual rights- child pornography, for instance, is wrong because is violates the rights of the children featured in it. Most of the things that are subject to censorship, however, are censored simply because they offend people... and I hold as most sacred that nobody has a right not to be offended.

The person who is so infantile that they cannot or will not look away when something offends them, and thus require some outside authority to 'make the bad thing go away,' is just about the most pathetic and repulsive creature I can think of.

What a person allows in their home, on their forum... that's their business. I might not agree with the limits, but in their space they have the right to impose those limits. However, once those limits are taken out into public and applied in everyone's space, they become fundamentally wrong... opinions are subjective, and opinions are what makes anything offensive to begin with. Censorship represents the imposition of one specific opinion on an awful lot of people who don't necessarily agree with it, and amounts to making all opposing points of view effectively illegal.

Kids watching porn? Exercise your parental authority and turn it off. Bothered by the DJ uttering four-letter profanities? Switch the station. Censorship is not the answer that a civilized, free society should be turning to.

If your 10 year old is going through all the trouble to get past a computer block, why not let him watch the damn porn? I mean if the kid can get past everything anyways whats the point?

Seeing sex isn't going to make you turn into a crazy insane serial killing lunatic...

Don't censor anything that isn't against the rights of humanity. For example, showing child porn is against the rights of humanity, specifically that child. Showing a brutal murder on the internet is not only stupid(I mean you're gonna get caught if you do that crap), it's against the rights of the human who is the victim.

But why censor porn and violence that isn't real. I mean if a kid is getting past firewalls to see it, you might as well reward him for the effort. I personally would be proud my child could go through firewalls with ease, maybe not approve of the motives but I would be proud that my child could go through firewalls in any case.

As for violence and swear words, the world is worse.

Less than a week ago there was a storm occurring in the Korean penninsula that delayed SK's live fire exercise by about a couple of hours ,this time provided the space for New Mexico's Governor Bill Richardson to work out an agreement that literally prevented a shooting war from breaking out in the Korea's ,that could easily go nuclear .Now we are all aware of the sinking of the SK destroyer a few months back and the shelling that occurred a month ago but how many of us are aware that in the last year SK has run near 50 live fire military exercises right up against the border with NK ,not too many of us because one paints NK as provocative ,the other SK as provocative and the real question is why are you only getting one side of the story because your being Censored.

On the night this was going down ,most American sites that I would frequent for info were very slow to load (throttlng) or wouldn't load at all ,all the TV news media was running fluff news programming ,the last thing out of CNN was an expert on South East Asia who when asked what was the potential of casualties stated in the first few hours there would be 100,000's of thousands eventually leading to millions ,Where upon CNN closes the evenings news broadcast and begins running repeat programming of a Soldier's Story I had to go to an Australian blogger who had pictures showing Australian, British and Canadian ships forming up into a Battle group 3 days prior to this getting ready to head north from Australia ,another site from Japan informed me that US forces on Okinawa were on full battle alert and at least 2 Carrier Battle Groups were cruisin out in the Sea of China at times coming within 12 nautical miles of the Chinese coast.

Now there is a lot of other stuff about this I could relate but the real question is why are many of you finding out about this from a gamers mod site instead of your so called free press ,if you think censorship matters ,wonder about things like this ,wonder why you could be lead into a war in Iraq that by your own Nuremberg Trial laws amount to War Crimes ,wonder why an individual like Assange would release cables detailing how your government is telling you one thing and doing another and all your media is so concerned whether his condom breaking is a crime in Sweden.

Now as far as porn or gratuitous violence goes in regard to censorship there have been good common sense opinions given but when it comes to the true impact censorship can have on your society talking about those things is like equating censorship with American Idol ,Justin Beiber or Britney Spears its all fluff that turns something like censorship into a non issue.

Anyway just 2 cents of thought to think about.

about Censorship:

Well we've all been censored. No-one knows that the UN supported the massacre of Sri Lankans. And then the Government of Sri Lanka was declared as heroes.

Really, we put our trust, our faith, our COUNTRY, into these people? who support Genocide?

Common people is attracted by the morbid exercising a kind of fascination even in balanced minds. Above all the morbid fascination might serve as a trigger to unbalanced minds go into action. The media has been acting two ways, trivializing things that should indeed chock us and creating the dream of a short but "bright" instant of fame for psychopaths.

The constant exposition to the morbid we have seen everywhere, which have been growing more and more frequent nowadays can't be good thing, we are already seeing it's effects.

The general education has been hardly hit too, strangely it happens when Internet should provide information to all, but may be justly there the problem. The information became abundant but the knowing became shallow. I have talked to some younger that "really" believe they don't need to study anymore, they can have everything they need on the web... they seen not perceive the lack of "fundamentals" to cement they knowing base. This is morbid too.
