Can I Add Mods As I Play?

So far, Oblivion still seems to be working great as I continue to add mods during a game. For some reason I always thought to load all the mods I wanted to use at once, but usually i'd find some problems and after spending hours adding mods and setting up my game, I was reluctant to o back and try again. I was wondering if this is the same for Morrowind. I've been told by some to find all the mods I wanted to use first. I've lso been told that Oblivion saves are much more reliable than Morrowind saves. I'd like to try the same method and add mods as I go. Any opinions?

long time since I played Morrowind for the last time. Yes, the mod isolation is far better in Oblivion but installing new mods to Morrowind for in course games should not be a big trouble if some common sense is used.

The mod's nature is one the main factors to dictate it's compatibility with the ongoing game. Mods that just add items or change the looking should not pose issues of the kind where mods that changes the game mechanics can affect it for good or for bad.

Wrye has an utility, I think "mash" is it's name, that can detect potential issues and correct most of them, look at it's savegames section, the colored icons points how serious the issues would be to them.

That's the basic, more specific directions need more specific targets.

What I have found very useful since trying it is 'Morrowind Plugin Manager'. Assuming that you have the files correctly placed within a zip file (I don't think 7zip works) the utility will place the mod's files in the correct locations. Importantly it will also uninstall them. As with any mod install/uninstall you should take precautions. I have removed a few mods with no game killing effects. I can't recall if I found the manager on the NEXUS but it is in my opinion well worth the effort of trying.

I've heard of that utility but i've never used it. Until now, I just loaded ALL the mods I wanted to use and attemtpted to play the game. Unfortunately most of the time things didn't work so well. I already have a game going at the moment, but i'm thinking of starting a new one and testing mods as I go. I've gotten the hang of dong that with Oblivion, so I think things will be better this time around.

I've used the utility in an established game with no difficulties. And it certainly works in a way akin to a very cut down Oblivion Mod Manager allowing you to test mods.

As with The Oblivion utility the one thing to stress is that you ensure that the files within the zip are properly placed for an automatic installation.

Goodl uck with your gaming & a happy new year!

It depends on the mods. Most can be loaded all at once, and most can be added during a game, BUT some won't work until a new ganme is started, just like in Oblivion. Unlike oblivion, though, if you change a mod during a game, it will reset the mod. That is, if you have a mod with some loot in a room, and you clean out the loot, but then tweak the mod, the room of loot will respawn with the new mod's effects, which is potentially handy or disastrous.

All in all, though, in most cases you can keep adding mods during one game.
