Something that i see happening over and over

Drinking is just sad.

all those meaningless deaths caused by alcohol (DUI accidents, poisonings, murders, sexual abuses, suicides, etc etc) are enough to back me up on that.

to shorten this, i just want to say i'm on your side, but there's nothing we can do. especially with all those industries profiting from selling alcohol.

i don't smoke either. but the thing is, my city's air is so polluted all the time, every breath is like smoking 10 cigars.

if i die, my death has to be lung cancer related.

Here's a pic, see for yourself.

Tehran is like a walking death trap, you'll be lucky if you weren't irritated from the smog. I always had the feeling that there was something heavy on me. On a good day you might see the mountains but most of the time it's just smog and cough.

Back on topic, I have a fun time at parties, it's just people have their drinking habits set and part of that is the culture we live in. Drink because you're happy, drink because you're sad... we see it in movies, TV shows and other forms of media, it's just too ingrained to the people's psyche. There are a few ways where we can fix this, one is education and the other is wiping people's minds and start again from scratch. Since the second one doesn't work for obvious reasons, educating people about the dangers of drinking and teaching them to party responsibly is the only way to help with this problem. We can't stop drinking but we can curve it to be safer.

Couldn't agree more OP. I've got nothing against people that drink, but personally I don't touch the stuff, and it's nothing short of awkward to be at a party and be the only one not drinking. It's borderline annoying. I had a good New Year's just recently, though. Managed to get a group of like-minded friends together and just hang out. No drinking, no smoking, no drugs, and we had a fantastic time. Sure, there were only five of us, but that was enough for me. Edited by SandsOfTime404

That sound like a quality night out (or in) to me.

If only my friends lived nearer to me though...

I don't drink much alcohol, I'd rather drink something I enjoy the taste of. And, control freak that I am, I cannot bear the idea of getting drunk anymore (did far too much at uni, lol). I have done a fair few substances in my time, and alcohol is deffinately the worst of the lot, in terms of making you act like an idiot. It is incredably sad how people seem to think enjoyment has to come from a bottle. Some of my happiest times have been spent with a cup of tea!

Brokenergy, about the education bit, the thing is people dont educate them. As far as i know most people i know started drinking in high school, around 14 and below, at the age of 16 they already alcoholic. The question is, where are the parents? Its the job of the parents to EDUCATE their child about all this stuff but NO, you know what there parent says? they ask," hey i am going shopping what alcohol do you want?" At the age of 17 they cant live anymore without alchol and thats when i hear: "Oh i dont really feel like it but i am getting drunk tonight" or "i am going with my mates to get pissed".

And then, call me anti-social if you will, i get calls from friends saying all kind of weird stuff in slurry voices after a "night-out" at the pub, when i see them again i ask them to delete my number from their phone.

The government here doesn't give a good goddamn about the over-alcoholic populace, it keep the mobs under control, the peoples mind away from what actually happening while they completely trash the economy system and do whatever they please.

Danish government passed a law that just started to work January the 1. 2011. It says that youngsters beneath 18 years of age can no longer buy alcohol.

What it does not say, however, is that their mates above above 18, cannot buy it for them

I've tried Gin, Tequilas, Whisky, Wine of many varieties, Beer, and other beverages in the sanctity of my home. I seriously do not see the problem with drinking alcohol under 18, or under 21 in that case. I drink very responsibly, however, so I don't do reckless things. My parents fully support me when I drink, and have taught me how to overcome situations involving intoxication. I'm not uneducated, and I'm not a rebel. I just enjoy taking a break from worrying about the state of our world, and my inability to do jack s*** about any of it.

If I had all the money I've spent on drink, I'd spend it on drink.. :whistling:

Seriously though, moderation is the key. Alcohol is nice, but basically a poison. There have been idiots who've accepted bets on whether they can drink a whole bottle of liquor in one go, and ended up dead an hour or so later. Then there are the ones who get out just for a few every night, and end up with rotted livers after many years of that.

Alcoholics not only wreck their livers, they don't eat much (alcohol being a carbohydrate, kind of, in that it's an energy source) and suffer from serious vitamin deficiencies. If you're going to be a dedicated lush, at least eat properly between the shots
