Few minutes after upload file changes size and link is dead

Growlf

Recommended Posts

It means this file : Growlfs New Hotbody

First uploaded it yesterday in early evening (GST). An hour later some german members of my forum told me that the link is dead.

Looked to TESsource- the file size was 1 kB instead of 4 MB and the download link didn't work.

Well, I uploaded the file again, size was correctly shown, link worked, I also added a mirror.

Today the file size again was shown as 5 kB, link was dead.

3rd upload: worked only for 1 minute! Now file size is again incorrect, and download link- must I repeat this?- don't works.

What happens?

I've been trying to replicate this error on my system Growlf but I can't seem to do it. I'm going to transfer ownership of the file in the database over to me for a short while to see if it does the same for me.

Ok, I've uploaded a test file to the your file page and it all seems to be working. The file size is correct, the file is what is should be and nothing has changed...

Can you tell me what browser you are using?

Thx for your efforts.

I use Mozilla 1.7.3 . But initially it shows the file size correctly. And also other users have the same download and file size problem.

I did a test download after upload, and it worked properly. The next trial (after changing file size in TESsource) did'nt work.

Maybe im just stupid now, but I think Mozilla IS firefox... :P

I uploaded all my files with IE, they all have the same problem... I don't find a problem in updating them once in a while though :P

Maybe I'm also stupid- why is it a browser problem, when I uploaded it successful (and made an also successful test download with correct size) , and after a few minutes the file size is changed?

This changings happen after closing mozilla and reopening later. Can't understand why this should be initiated by used browser.

In addition, the same uploading procedure works with the same browser at all used mirrors. I'm at a loss.

Well Growlf as you can see my test upload on your profile has worked fine, and has stayed as it is for the past 24 hours. The very fact that I cannot replicate this issue would seem to suggest it is something to do with the user/browser rather than the server/site code.

I'm going to reapply ownership of the file over to you. Please try reuploading again.

I had the same problem of the mod "being deleted" after a few minutes but I'll describe my circumstance:

I use Mozilla Firefox 2.0 (I love the built-in spell-checking feature)

I edited my two mods called "Lamps of Oblivion" and "Dragonbone Armor Set"

I added a file mirror and updated the author notes to reflect that I made a file mirror addition, I also updated the description to include a link to the mirror.

I saved the changes (did not upload any files) and it looked like it worked fine as I was leary about making a change I verified that the file size was still correct and that I could download my mod.

About 10 minutes or so later, when I checked again for comments, I noticed the file size said 1kb and that the download link no longer worked. I checked my other mod and the same thing occured.

I edited both mods, updated the author section about what happened and re-uploaded the files.

Both worked and it has been 24 hours and they are still there.

I don't know what caused the files to be deleted but I seriously doubt it was a browser issue.

But now that I think about it, I'll help you troubleshoot and make similar changes using Internet Explorer and see if the files disappear. I will also uninstall Firefox 2.0 and put Firefox 1.5.0.7 back on and try the same procedure as well and let you know.

The upload process has apparently changed where it now EXPECTS you to upload a file. If you do not, it will erase your existing file.

I used Internet Explorer 6.0 to edit my file, I changed nothing and simply clicked the submit button and it immediately purged my file.

I edited the mod again and uploaded the file and it worked.

I then edited the mod again and updated the author note and clicked submit (without uploading a file) and the update process again deleted my file (or at least removed the reference).

When I edited the mod again for a 3rd time to fix the missing file by re-uploading the archive again, I got this error message:

"An error occurred. The file name "5814-1.0-Lamps of Oblivion-TESSource.7z" already exists!"

I don't think I need to continue testing by uninstalling Firefox 2.0 to test and see if the same thing will happen with 1.5.0.7 because I'm sure it will.

o_O Bummer - Now I'm stuck and cannot re-upload in any browser because of the error mentioned above.

EDIT: I got around the upload error for now by changing my version number from 1.0 to 1.0.0 which creates a differently spelled filename. ;)
