MW Worth playing, and how?

I have previously played (and very much enjoyed) Oblivion, Skyrim and Fallout - all vanilla, THEN with mods (mainly from this Nexus).

I find myself with a month or so with time to spare ... is MW worth a run thro (?), and if so, should I play vanilla or mod straight off the bat - if so, which mods - I want a fair "balance" so don't want it made too easy, but would like the game to be as long as possible (I tend to do all side-quests and make the main quest/game last as long as possible!) - but stable!

Also, is OpenMW (1.0) worth waiting for first?

I know many of the answers to the above are probably in this forum somewhere, but there is just soooo much info (and u guys are always soooo helpful anyways!

Thanks in advance!

Thanks Dragon32, just what I wanted - not sure why I didn't find it, I did have a look! Anyway, cheers (and btw, I used to own a Dragon32 computer ... if that's where your name came from, great machine for it's time!)

Yeah, fond memories of my first computer. I like the nickname, the whole dragon things fits with computer games and, as an added bonus, the special people in the know pick up on the computer reference too.

Glad I could help out

Its most definitely worth playing I would say its one of the best in the series. You can get Morrowind to look gorgeous with just the simple mw overhaul (mgso) witch is a collaboration of many mods. Openmw will certainly be a must when its complete I haven’t personally tried it yet I'm waiting for 1.0.

Hi

I was like that - had played the other games but not Morrowind. I bought it recently in the Steam Summer sale for like nothing. I noticed I've done 100 hours since them, and made a mod too!!! And have this feeling that whenever I am away from my PC, I can't wait to get back to it to continue playing Morrowind!

With regard to mods I can understand why people like Vanilla. It has a simplicity and clean look that seems almost abstract today. However, with the MGSO package installed, it looks fantastic, with buildings and landscapes that rival the latest Bethesda games. This package add things like weather, better sounds, bug fixes, animated grass and flora, better looking characters, and so on. However, it doesn't change the gameplay. My recommendation is that you start with Vanilla, save as soon as you are able, then install the MGSO. Then you will see the difference and can decide.

I would also recommend using a few other non-gamplay-changing mods, like Abot's boats, Abot's birds, and the Vivec Expansion.

Finally, in response to your original question, "Is MW worth playing", most definitely yes. Morrowind is a one-off masterpiece, the likes of which we are unlikely to see released commercially again. It was made in the days when games companies were focused more on creativity and art, rather than on sales figures.
