Midwinter1888
Hi, I've hit an odd problem with Oblivion that I had on a previous installation (and computer) so I wonder if anyone else has seen it and knows what causes it. I've got a ton of mods, but my set-up is very stable and generally crash free (thanks to FCOM and Wrye Bash). But recently the loading bar in complex areas (like cities) has slowed right down. So has the time the game takes to create a save. The weird thing is that I haven't added any mods or texture upgrades recently, and I have no idea why the game is running so slow all of a sudden when it was running smooth as silk just a few days ago. I'm hoping the problem will go away as spontaneously as it cropped up, but if anyone has any suggestions I'd be very grateful.
Fonger
how many saves do you have?
Midwinter1888
how many saves do you have? Hmmm... Rather a lot actually. I deleted lots of them recently, but it looks like I better tidy up again. But would too many saves slow down the loading bar?

I don't use a ton of mods, but I've got maybe 10. Easily have more than 10 different saves though. Takes me a solid 2 minutes to load up anywhere in a city, and longer anywhere in the IC. If saves is the issue though I may cut back. Any other things that cause this though?
Midwinter1888
No. Clearing out my old saves hasn't fixed the slow loading problem. Anyone got any other ideas?
Hickory
Have you checked your save/s for bloat in Wrye Bash?
Midwinter1888
Have you checked your save/s for bloat in Wrye Bash? Thanks Hickory, but Wrye Bash says 'No bloating found' on my saves.
Hickory
Then I think your save files are just reaching a size where they take more processing. Remember, the longer your playtime, the larger the save becomes. For instance, at the very start of a game your save is likely to be around 7-800 kb. By the time of the sewer exit, this has increased to around 1.5-2 Mb. With increasing game time the size quickly grows. Mine is currently at 8 Mb. and is starting to manifest, on occasion, some of the symptoms you describe.

It's the slow loading that really annoys.
