Interplay could develop Fallout 6, if Bethesda refuses to allow Fallou

No.. No... No.. No.. And another NO!

In the name of all that is radiated, do not make such a fine game, into a cheap MMO.

They can gladly make something of a multiplayer-server (Like they have done in S.T.A.L.K.E.R), if a player wish to share a part of the "adventure" with others (Or just have a death match).

But if it would come down to making a pure MMORPG of this grand game, the requirements and changes would be of such a force, that I would not even consider playing the game. Just imagine the quests, wait time, communication, race/factions, melee Vs ranged between players, fast traveling and so forth.

With the changes, it just wouldn't be Fallout anymore.

I prefer Bethesda's Fallout games, so I hope they stomp all over Interplay and keep the license.

Black Isle is dead and gone anyways, this is a different Interplay and frankly I see no reason for them to try to make more Fallout games when Bethesdian is already doing a great job of it.

Honestly, I really don't see the point of a Fallout MMO; you literally can't get any farther from an MMO than the Fallout series, which allow the player (and ONLY the player) to change virtually every aspect of the game world to his liking.

Interplay had their chance with the series, they blew it, now it's time for fresh blood.

First, did someone release Fallout 4 while I was working on FNV? I think they mean that Beth could still have F4, but since they have not even started on that, if Interplay is serious then they will not even allow that.

As for the legal issues it is simple:

1) There was a contract that gave the Intellectual Property (IP) to Bethesda for money and the right to make the Fallout MMO.

2) Bethesda is interfering with the process of making the MMO

3) If Bethesda does not win that suit, then they will have invalidated the conditions of the sale (#1)

4) If Bethesda is found in breach of contract then the IP will return to Interplay

So basically, Interplay just told Bethesda to back off once and for all. Bethesda has been losing the legal encounters lately and it is very likely that they will do just that. They will take another month and announce they are dropping the suit (unless they really have a few aces up their sleeve - because so far they have nothing).

As for Obsidian handing it. I think that it should be a team effort. Let Obsidian make the toolset (NWN2 toolset was the best) and handle the storyline, dialogue, and quest design. Bethesda should handles the actual implementation as their management and teams are much better. From a technical standpoint FNV is terrible compared to F3 (most of the assets and engine were already done), but is much better in the RPG (but even here all the quest bugs hurt it considerably). So teaming up they could actually make something to set the bar for years to come. It will not happen, but it would be the best we could hope for.

Could Interplay do a better job? No one can know. We would have to take a look at their current abilities and that is not possible. While I do not like MMOs myself, if there were ever one that I would be interested in working on, or playing, it would be a Fallout MMO. I agree about the usual MMO crap (bubbles, hacking safe zones, etc.) being a major obstacle to getting an actual Fallout experience. I expect something more along the lines of Fallout Tactics, rather than F1/F2.

Cheers!

Just to add my two cents I am not a fan of MMO's. Capturing a flag just doesn't do it for me. There's no plot or storyline. Whatever team captures the flag everyone then moves on to the next map. Plus the fact, that some players like to hang out where you spawn and re-spawn and kill you as you spawn and re-spawn, back into the game. Not only that, I am not one who will ever pay to play. Purchasing the game and perhaps paying for its DLC's, if proven worth the money spent, is all I will ever pay for. Nope, I wouldn't be happy if that were to happen. Thanks.

^ You're thinking of online shooters, very different from MMO of any sort.

I think it's just sour grapes on the part of Interplay. They saw how Bethesda revived the franchise and now want it back. I wouldn't be interested in Fallout: The Mumorpuger so I'm all for Bethesda keeping the IP if they're not going to make a mumorpuger out of it. Have a Fallout with multiplayer, fine, but definitely not a MMO.

I'm indifferent about whether Bethesda or Interplay have the IP. I do care about whether they make not just a good game, but a good Fallout game. Bethesda and Interplay, in my opinion, have an equal chance of screwing things up. Sure, Brotherhood of Steel was a much worse case than Fallout 3, but Fallout 3 was terrible as a Fallout game nonetheless.

(The above is my opinion, I don't want to argue about whether Fallout 3 is a good Fallout game or not)

As I stated before I am not a fan of MMO’s and I do know the difference between say, Battlefield 2142 and World of Warcraft. That being said, I believe that the gaming industry as a whole is changing how they develop games. Furthermore, I believe that sometime in the near future video games for PC’s with be a thing of the past, as many more young people utilize video game consoles. Moreover, it seems readily apparent that game Publishers like EA, just for example, are more concerned with turning a profit than putting out quality games. Meanwhile game developers are creating games to suit themselves not necessarily for the consumer gamer. What we as gamers want to see in a game seems to be of little concern for the developer and the publisher in general. Take for example, Bioware and EA and the Dragon Age franchise. Both these companies’ stepped away from Dragon Age Origins to create Dragon Age 2: a medieval version of Mass Effect.

Let me explain further? I recently read an article where some food product manufacturing companies, such as Kraft, are clamoring to raise their food prices at supermarkets because, and I quote, “they have to protect their profits.” Good, bad or indifferent so it is with all companies, I suppose. The investors come first, the consumer last. Free enterprise and the American way.

Still, this is only my take on the subject. I don't have any claim to being an economist or any sort of business acumen. I am just an over-the-hill consumer-gamer. Thank you for listening.

We all know that if a Fallout mmo is made it will be a terrible grind fest and die quickly so it seems that the best course of action for Beth is to let Interplay make an mmo which will die quickly since the current interplay has no funds, none of the original devs and no experience with mmo's. Once Interplay finally goes bankrupt we can get back to triple A Fallout games and in a better world Beth and Obsidian will finally hire a team to bugtest their crashy messes before release.

You say that like it's a bad thing. Mass Effect was great.

Mass Effect 2 not so much. I hope they don't make a medieval version of Mass Effect 2.
