Guest Guest_kate
i know alot of people have this particular problem, so could someone direct me to a site that has a guide or something to customise the computer so it stops crashing, or something like that anywho?plz, kate
Switch
lol theres no way 2 fix it, morrowind crashes a lot, its just how it is. just make sure u save a lot, especially quicksave (F5) so u dont lose any data if it crashes. EDIT: oh yeah and if it crashes a lot while ur running around or loading areas etc i've found the following helps:setting ur fog distance to near, far tends to make it much more likely to crash.making sure u dont jump too much, jumping into new areas can make it crash.also running too fast into areas can make it crash very easily (like at 500 speed or something when u've fiddled with ur char in the console ^_^)

ThetaOrionis01
What are your computer specs - especially CPU, RAM & graphics card? Don't know if the fault is related to any of these, but perhaps with that info someone whose computer knowledge is greater than mine (ie most people! ) will be able to help you pinpoint the problem. I found this tweaks guide on the Morrowind Chronicles forum - perhaps you find something in there which helps: http://dynamic5.gamespy.com/~chronicles/ya...;num=1034185980 Have you tried uninstalling MOrrowind, defragging your HDD and re-installing - maybe there's a corrupt file in your current install. Reiyan
i haven't tried defragging the system yet... bt i have reinstalled the game and it crashes at exactly the same point each time!! these are my computer specs: windows MEAuthenticAMDAMD Athlon processor256 MB RAMCreative SB live! series im not actually all too sure what that (the stuff above) are, does anyoen see any reason why the game wpuld keep on crashing due to this?? kate
Switch
uh did u actually list ur graphics card? i cant see one there i recognise, so it could be ur graphics card also u didnt list ur processor speed er so dont really have much info to go on lol but yeah u cud try defragging, reinstalling, patching, looking at that tweaks thing... but it wud help if u posted the specs of ur processor and graphics card
Reiyan
I would look at the tweak guide bt it confuses the heck outta me... processor speed? <---- i sorta know wot it is, im not exactly computer literate tho  and i dont kno wot my graphics card is, erm, it mite be the Creative SB ,live thing bt in all truth i dont know sorry i havent given you much to go by, kate
ThetaOrionis01
Hmm....I'm not exactly computer literate either, but if your system is at the lower end of the requirements spectrum or if your graphics card is not supported your system might be more likely to crash. To find out what your processor speed and graphics card are, look at the information displayed when your computer starts up - eg AMD Athlon 600MHZ on ASUS Geforce4 Ti4200....at least I think it displays the information there - not sure about windows ME though. Another way to get information about your graphics card is to go into your display properties (control panel or right-click anywhere on the desktop and select 'properties'), select 'settings' and click the 'advanced' tab. There should be a tab 'information' which tells you what your chipset is, or you might get a tab with the name of your graphics card (at least you do in Win98SE). I have been told that Morrowind is very demanding on CPUs - maybe if you have a lot of processes running in the background your processor can't cope? How many programs are routinely running in the background - maybe there's a conflict with one of them? Just guessing though. I think the Creative SB is your soundcard - again, I'm no expert. 256MB doesn't give you a lot of spare RAM - maybe defragging will help. I'm not sure whether lack of RAM would make your system crash...if that turns out to be the case, downloading and installing a memory manager might help (or getting more RAM). See what you can find about your graphics card and CPU speed. NOW - WHERE ARE ALL YOU COMPUTER-LITERATE PEOPLE?!?!?!?!
FlyingFox
Yes, your Creative SB Live! card is your sound card, which can cause the game to crash (or at least cause other games to crash... not sure about morrowind.). Make sure your sound card is completely DirectX 8.1 compatable (doesn't have to be, but that may be the problem.) Otherwise, your video card may be the problem. For that, check for names like NVidia, Radeon, etc. Those are the big names. make sure its atleast 32MB, and not 16MB, the difference can slow down the game and ultimately cause it to crash. Also, make sure that your video card is compatable with the game; check the system specs on the game box and compare it to your own card. The list of compatable cards in the ReadMe gives video card families, like the GeForce 4 family, GeForce 3 family, etc. (GeForce is a product of NVidia). If you can't figure out which familiy your video card is, post it here and I'm sure someone will be able to tell you. Whats your processor speed? If you have at least 1GHtz, it should be good (I personally have 1.3Ghtz, and it plays reasonably well, with the occasional crash-to-desktop, like anyone will most likely have). It is good you have the 256MB RAM-- this is something you dont need to worry about. :) Check this stuff out, post back in the forums, and we'll try to help you out as best we can. Good luck. Reiyan
:D yay, nice people! (sorry, one of the first forums ive been on where people actualy REPLY to your messages!) weeeeell, concerning processer speed, i hav 1GHtz. But i dont think that the game crashes because the computer is at the lower end of the specs requirement: i have also installed the game on my mums computer, which is not as good as this one (the one im having trouble on) but it works almost perfectly, if you ignore the facts its so painfully slow... <_< NVIDIA GeForce2 Ultra is the sound card, or the video card... bt im gonna presume its the video card, cus i think the "creative SB..." thing i mentioned earlier is the sound card. And i dont think its compatible wth the game :o i hope this helps another thing, its not frequent crashes in the game, its more that it keeps crashing at one point in the game, i cant get out of the registration office in Seyda Neen (i think thats wot it is called). i also heard that computers with AMD processers may have problems wth Morrowind, is this true??
