Seeing Thunder and Hearing Lightning

Walking in the woods, under trees with autumn leaves,

Feeling on their face the wind's gentle breeze.

Fearing no man, animal, or foul beast,

Not a worry in the least.

 

A warrior at heart and his mind always on war,

Gorvin, sword master to the very core.

Waiting for the coming of battle near,

Getting rid of all his fear.

 

Among his companions, Lindor, mighty bowman,

Never to leave his captains right-hand side.

Arrow and string with the soft twang of death,

Finds the mark and ends the breath.

 

Valagon, wizard and enchanter, swift in speech,

And powerful music he gives to each,

Protecting man and elf in all the groups,

Dreadful to enemy troops.

 

Of healing none could boast like Muz, Great Herbalist.

All will be help and saved if in his mist

By his ever so strong magic powers,

And by the bloom of flowers.

 

With these four, thirty more followed to aid in fights,

Proving faithful in bright days and dark nights.

Never fearing the sting of death to come,

Always to follow their drums.

Up in the Dark Mountain ancient evil awaits

To smolder in malice and feed their hates.

To swiftly show all their power and might,

To come and depart like night.

 

Halzeril, King of Dragons, guardian of his Lord,

Of whom past lore is never fully told.

Dark Lord Torgnal with pain as his disguise,

Moves ever toward his demise.

 

An army of orcs and goblins await his will,

To destroy and plunder, with fire to fill

The last homes of men and also of elves,

Caring not for their own selves.

 

But in Torgnal's impatience, he sent his cursed men

To find his victory he thought had been

In his grasp, but to far ahead of him,

A war sung in all the hymns.

In that morning, light faintly came through that dark cloud,

Awoken be thunder and enemies. Loud

On their ears a battle is now stirring,

Now their horses they 're spurring.

 

Encompassed by black, hideous night, the evils' nigh,

But a dim light in the mist is near by.

Trumpets are blown while battle cries they yell,

Man with the first arrow fell.

 

 

Back and forth near to death the battle is turning,

Lightning is flashing, and fires burning.

Finding no rest for more than a second

On all sides being threatened .

 

But at last when Torgnal's army was nigh vict'ry,

Gorvin with men vanished by wizardry.

All was still and for a moment orcs wait,

But seeing their foe to late.

You have gathered your group I see. I leave off at the last page above this, pondering in the gathered gloom of words that spell out many a good warriors doom. What is about in the remaining view? What will happen next?

Under the light of mystery,

Darkening shadows to be,

Songs of hiding,

Spells of finding.

Gorvin being called feign,

And Torgnal has seen,

The escape of fate and doom,

To his army he booms,

"Follow that trick and traitor!

"Do not wait till later."

 

Away as fast as wind,

No short cuts to exscind.

Gorvin and his few friends

Fly through corners and bends.

Ever longing the distance

More and more every instance.

Coming at last to the castle of elf and men,

A fight and flight like that, had never been!

So weary and tired they were,

Where the enemy followed near!

Upon the wall the boulders collide,

Enemies as for as can be eyed.

Hope lost out of time and space,

Yet it is not the case.

 

Fire and smoke assail and get beat,

The defence of castle is ever great.

Arrows from above like rain,

Becomes the orcs' bane.

 

In desperate offence, the dragons are released,

Striking fear in the heart of the great and the least.

Black smoke and fire in the castle walls,

As the city look as to fall.

 

The King of Elves and Leader of Men upon this scene come,

To turn the tide and to help some

Hurt by arrows and fire and rock alike,

To face Torgnal sword and pike.
