NPC react to custom cat like race, as if it was a Khajiit?

Hi,

I would like to make the whole game react to my custom cat race, as if they were facing a Khajiit. Yet I do not really know how this is done or if it is even possible.

So my question is, if this is possible and how it is done?

Many thanks to all help and suggestions.

Reactions as in behaviour is simply a matter of editing every single race's 'Disposition' towards your race, and your race to every other one.

Dialog, though, is a totally different matter, and not one to go into lightly unless you have the resources of Bethesda.

I meant in the way that all NPCs and every quest related dialog script reacts to my race as if it was a Khajiit. So do you mean I have to run through every quest related dialog script each and change it?

You're still not making yourself very clear. NPCs never, in my experience, refer to the player (with the exception of Valen Dreth at the start) by race. But don't even dream about editing every single dialog unless you REALLY know what you're doing.

Well, I made this custom cat race. I want this race to be recognized as Khajiit, for I see it as just another Khajiit race. Yet I do not want to change the vanilla Khajiit race, just the game in general react to my custom race as if it was the vanilla Khajiit. Just like at the start of the game, where that dark elf mocks you specifically depending on your race, for example. With a custom race he will just ask what the heck you are, yet if I chose the vanilla Khajiit race, he would mock me specifically as a Khajiit. And that's what I want for my custom race and with every dialog/NPC reaction in the game.

So, to get this, would I have to go through all dialog scripts or is there a easier way to get this?

If you're using OBSE, you can make NPCs treat your cuatom race as any vanilla race with OBSE function 'SetRaceAlias'.

SetRaceAlias (your race) (any vanilla race)

IIRC, XEO uses 'SetRaceAlias' to make duplicates races to be recognized as original stock races.

Thanks a lot! I'll try to make it work!

As a player of a Khajiit I can attest to the fact that they do. I sometimes get comments from NPCs like "Greetings, Khajiit" or even get called "fur-licker" (which makes me wish I were playing a really evil character and using Deadly Reflexes). I've noted on several occasions that Argonians would refer to my Khajiit character as "hated race" (at least I think that was the term used). When I was playing a Bosmer I would sometimes get the remark "Greetings, Bosmer", as well. I might note that I always play with Cobl, but I don't think that package alters the NPC dialog. It's probable, therefore, that part of the built-in AI of NPCs has them checking the player's race. I really haven't felt inclined to dig into the conversation part of the AI, although I suspect this only comes into play in the passive elements of it, since I've only been so addressed as a passing remark and never within an actual interactive conversation.

Perhaps it's more prevelant in some races. If I play a vanilla race, it's usually Breton, as I like to play spellsword type characters. Having said that, I have been playing a custom race for quite some time, so maybe I have got used to not being addressed by racial references.
