Oblivion modding, totally horrible.

Okay, so recently I've decided to finally mod Oblivion, originally I didn't bother because there was so much content in the game that I literally had no need for it, but now I'm looking to spice my game up, so here I am, downloading Oblivion mods through the Nexus Mod Manager and BOOM, my game is absolutely f***ed.

I've uninstalled every mod, and I know now that modding through NMM is impossible on Oblivion now, so, how the f*** do I use mods from Nexus on the Oblivion Mod Manager? I'm really confused and have no idea what I'm doing, I've looked up stuff but the only thing it shows is downloading mods from tesnexus, can I no longer download mods from nexusmods? Or do I have to download every single mod manually and then do something in OMM?

Hoping for an answer here, as I've been at a loss everywhere else I go.

Its been a few years, but the gist of what I remember is that NMM is useless for oblivion. Use OBMM. Everything is manual download; pay sharp attention to requirements, conflicts, and load order. I have no doubt that there are other ways to go about things, but this is how I did it, and my game ran at about 95% efficiency of unmodded. Even with all the LL mods I used.

I managed to get mods to work after a few manual installs and some playing around with different things on OMM, NMM and the data folder.

Some of the mods work fine when I installed them via NMM, others work with OMM and some are done through the data folder, so all seems to be in check now.

And some only work if you spin around two times, carry a feather in one hand, an old hard drive in another and pray to the Modding Gods. Welcome to it!

When Oblivion was released, mod managers did not exist. OBMM was probably the first one, and it came out well after the game and quite a few mods had been out for a while. Even OBMM can't install every mod, especially those with multiple options and some of those with special install instructions that came out before it was considered the way to go for mod installing. Read the documentation for the mod to see how it wants to be installed - Many just specify something like "unzip the mod and drop it in the data folder" those can almost always be installed by NMM.

OBMM, TES4Edit, Wyre Bash. Almost must have.

Get to know your game. Understand the directory map and you will do fine. BAIN for Wrye Bash is probably the best method for extensive installations.

Use OBMM to reset Archive Invalidated Invalidated and then use Wrye Bash to timestamp every plugin after doing any modding to your game besides loose files like textures etc. Then load order works like it should. Happy Modding!! Woot!! :D
