Can a mqachine, a thing built only for purpose, be art?

I present to you a Hieronymous Machine, a psychotronic device for the careful and regulated manipulation of the Aethers for the modern-day Technowizard.

I just can't get enough of these devices in general. However, this particular Hieronymous Machine was built with Steampunk ideals in mind...the bakelite knobs, the wooden box (which was a 1930's-ish (?) medical device's container, back when tools were handmade and all the components were made with care), and all the touches of brass, black, and polished wood that make up the visual I find very appealing if subtle and perhaps understated. There are a lot of fine touches that, I guess if you don't appreciate them, could be easily overlooked. But if you do, then the design of this particular Hieronymous Machine sets it a league above its more plain and modern-looking compatriots.

I for one loves a certain weapon, the M-95 "50 .CAL" Sniper Rifle. The way it looks is artistic. It appeals highy to me!

This is also art and very very expensive. This is the Mclaren F-1 GTR. Growing up in the '90s this was the car everyone idolised. Now, thos glory days are long past, but everyone who remembers it honours it for what it was in it's day: the fastest road legal car ever made, the most powerful car ever without using a turbo or supercharger, and one of the most successful productiom race cars ever created.

 

Winning Le Mans many times, and countless other races, this car is a legend of motor racing, If you discard from the list cars that have turbochargers or superchargers, devices that use air pressure to increase engine output, this is still the most powerful road legal car ever produced. It was also the fastest road legal car ever produced from 1995-2004.

It's "DNA" is almost as perfect as the finished product: Built by one of the most successful Formula One teams in history, it's bodywork penned by the chief stylist of the equally legendary Lotus Cars, and with it's engine procided by BMW. At a price of more thna a million US dollars, the F-1 was destined for greatness on the racetrack from the very moment it was launched, cutting a swathe across world motorsport, for years literaly nothing to give it solid competition, it's feather weight, enormous downforce, excellent reliability and vast engine power putting it in a league of it's own, and carving out a place in motor racing history. Few cars can claim even half of what the Mclaren F1 can.

 

Lastly, it's destinctive: the high pitched banshee shriek of it's six litre V-12, it's unusual, virtualy unique sidelong profile, and it's absolutely unique central driving position-similar to a Formula One-gave it a very unusual road profile. It's a true show of design prowess when a supercar looks truly unique, and unlike anything else on the road.
