hrc101
Hello guys, I have a problem with the steam version of fall of fallout 3, it is running with many mods and FOSE with the latest steam updates as of 2/26/2011. When I try to leave megaton the little loading circle spins twice then freezes and crashes, I tried to deactivate my mods but still nothing? hoping for the best. I am using windows 7 and FOMM. :verymad: thanks guys i will provide any details as needed.
nicdude
Load order would help maybe. Also, I think its bad if you deactivate a mod that replaces a vanilla texture, not really sure though. If it is messed up and you want to play a clean fallout 3, I strongly suggest you just reinstall.
proconsu1
Yeah, I'm with nicdude - we need that load order. It would also help if you could give a quick a rundown of how you installed those mods. That is, the order in which they were installed, the mod tools you used (FOMM, FO3edit, Wrye, BOSS) and whether you created a merge patch for them. Edit: oh, and big one, did you try loading back to an earlier save? Sometimes sudden, repeatable crashes on leaving a cell are the result of a corrupted save. hrc101
To install my mods, i download them from nexus, then i extract them with WINRAR and when they are in their respective folder, I compress the into an RAR. use the FOMM package manager to activate them. proconsu1
Loading an earlier save is a test as much as a fix. If it helps, then it is the fix. If it doesn't, then it is just a test to eliminate the save file as the source of the problem. As for your method, you start out fine, i.e. you are using FOMM to activate your mods. Manual installing is a big cause of many problems, though too many modders insist on only including manual install instructions in their readme files. :wallbash: But you need to wade a little deeper into that water, Grasshopper. You got FOMM, so put a check by step one. Now steps two and three: get FO3edit and BOSS. These three tools are your best friends when handling multiple mods. Here is the general procedure to follow when you are going to use multiple mods: 1. Read the readme files on each and every mod! (RTFM rules are in full force!) Pay particular attention to the authors' notes about what other mods are incompatible with theirs. 2. Make FOMOD files for all your mod archive files...and yes, that means a separate FOMOD for each individual downloaded archive file, even simple patches. Use a naming convention that will help you keep track of what order the files for a particular mod need to be installed in, i.e. main file gets installed first, version update(s) next, compatibility fixes last, etc. 3. After all FOMODS are created, activate them all in one fell swoop, with careful attention to do it in the proper order. Don't just pay attention to the order of files within each mod, though. Also keep notes on what order you installed the mods in relative to each other, cuz sometimes that matters and you may need to do this step all over again later with a different order (hence the reason for doing everything with FOMODS, i.e. cuz they clean up after themselves to allow you to do just that!). 4. When all mods are activated, run BOSS. It will sort out the load order for you and generate a listing of your mods with notations to warn you of any known problems or incompatibilities. Address any problems it alerts you to before proceeding further. Run BOSS again if necessary to confirm you got them all. 5. Now fire up FO3edit. It will open by loading in a list of all your installed mods. When that list appears just click "OK". Now you must wait patiently and touch nothing for a minute while it loads in all those mods. You will see some activity in both halves of its window, with occasional pauses on large file loads. You will know it is done loading when the status bar at the bottom says "Background loader: finished". Now you can proceed. Right-click on an empty spot near the bottom of the left half of the FO3edit window and select "Create Merged patch". FO3edit will prompt you for a name, just put in something generic like "merged1" or whatever will help you remember what that file is. A new .esp file will then be created and placed at the bottom of your load order. 6. Fire up FOMM one last time to make sure the merged patch is indeed the last thing in your load order and that it is activated. Also make sure that "Archive Invalidation" is checked in the Tools drop down menu. If its all good, launch FOSE and go to town. Now, for where you are right now, I would suggest using FOMM to export your load order to a text file. Then copy and paste the contents of that file here, so we can see exactly what's what.
