Strange Crash To Desktop Problem

New Vegas is crashing to desktop before it can get to the main menu for some unknown reason. I uninstalled all my mods to see if one of them was causing it, but it's still happening. If it's not a missing master file, what else could cause this to happen all of a sudden? I've had the game running normally for hundreds of hours and without messing with my load order or installing any new mods, this is occurring. I have no idea what to do.

This has been asked many maaany times, you could use search.

But Since I am already writing...

Go to My Documents/MyGames/Fallout NV and delete fallout.ini and falloutperfs.ini BACKUP FIRST

This should help.

Hi there!

I've got the IDENTICAL problem; and that solution sounded great and simple.

Sadly, upon trying it, nothing has improved. The only difference seems to be that the video configs are automatically changed and window notices pop up......then when i hit PLAY. crash.

I was playing a rather smooooooth NV game up until updating, too. D:

I know that it resets it, but it sometimes gets corrupt and it can't reset it.

I forgot to say, that people with the start up problem should go to their steam/steamapps/common/fallout new vegas folder and delete the fallout_default.ini and let steam re-download it. That too could be corrupted, and that's why deleting fallout.ini wouldn't work.

There are a lot of fixes that worked for fallout 3, and should in NV too.

If someone still has the problem, please post more details about it. (Your system specs too)

Luckily, it no longer crashes after verifying the integrity of the game cache files. I'm running the latest version of NVSE, Dead Money, and my mods. Hopefully everything keeps running smoothly.
