Well, the percentage of the gaming community that is female has been rising quite steadily, and while a lot of people think that females mostly play Candy Crush and other (horribly sexist) "girl games", there is also a growing population of PC and console female gamers. As a female who is a part of the gaming community, as well as a student studying to be an artist in the industry, I think games have taken huge steps toward being better suited to women. Sure, we still have our scantily dressed heroines with thunder-thighs and massive breasts, but at least they aren't stuck in a cage crying while they wait to be rescued by the male protagonist.

to be fair i'm not all that surprised at the gap... given all the "Adult" content tailored to guys floods the front pages daily. i think it would be interesting to see the sexuality gaps instead tho.

I don't find the amount of response surprising...a survey is like a mass mail-out...it doesn't target any demographic so that it tends to only get about a 2% return....This then means that you can safely assume that there are 1 million users moving in and out over the course of that period...You have the serves stats so you could easily get a more exact number...but the problem is determining of the various age and gender sub sets...who is more likely to respond...so that your total could be less by a fair percentage. If you determine that people below 18 and people over 45 don't do surveys...the amount of active users can be fairly higher...but just to keep it simple assume the two offset each other...

My big issue is trying to get a multi weapon wield system working...it involves skeleton body, animations and ui...Of course if I knew exactly what was involved and how each interacted in co-dependencies...I wouldn't be still looking for a solution... Now for me, a Nephew who has been a gamer since Atari and who is an IT exec ..an easy-button solution is available if I really want to ... but if you could create an SOI (Sphere of Influence) chat like once a weekfor each general issue a gamer might be dealing with...and say...geve some incentive to Modders to facilitate those chats...you would take a lot of frustration out of the modding learning curve...and your 6 hr per week user might be spending 8-10 hrs...33% jump in use means more add exposure.

9%. Dang. I figured there would be more men, but that's crazy. There has got to be more that just 9%. Even in the MMO good ol boys club, there's more women than that. Maybe its just that more men took the survey, proportionately?

My Niece is an avid on-line gamer...she had gotten in to Skyrim for a time, but was more than alittle consumed with League'...her younger sister is more of a girly'-girl and gravitates toward Sims....I think it's a good dea to team with females...they are inately atuned to multi tasking and comrtmentalizing stress...in PVP/team skirmish...it is quite an asset...but for Longer winded games...the ability is no less valuable...it is just less consuming and captivating...unless theinvolved in leading through creaion... Female moddrs tend to be very thorough in their productions. But God help you when you criticize them....you might as well have SLAPPED their BABY.

I am male gamer (42 years old) and I hate this behavior of those guys you were talking about!
It is bad for females and it's also bad for normal males, because it's hard to make friends with female players, because of this stupid behavior, many female players think, that all male players are like that. I had a lot of discussions with females about that topic and it was hard for them to trust a normal guy like me, because many of them thought that I would act like this, too, sooner or later, but that's not who I am and I would never do something like that. I respect females more than I respect males, because women are the better people and that's a fact! I respected my mother (R.I.P.), so why wouldn't I respect other females?
Fact is, that these guys are immature and their brains are NOT in their heads and one can only hope, that this changes sooner or later and I feel very sorry for females who had these kind of experiences, because I can imagine that it's not nice for them to get those kind of messages and I want to say SORRY that many many males are like that, but please keep in mind, that NOT all are like that. There are a few males out there, who have their brains in their heads and not in their pants.

ALL POWER TO THE FEMALES! Treat them like QUEENS, because they ARE queens! PEACE! Edited by westsidekidd

I wonder what the statistics for things like gender and age would show if they took the info from the profiles directly...
