MCR and other emo bands

Iron Maiden... still did that whole "Satan is cool, people will like us better if we sing about it" bullpoo.

Listen to the lyrics of "The number of the beast". You'll find it isn't satanic at all. It's all just complaints from saddos who took one look at the album cover.

As for Satanism in general, I wouldn't class it as a religion, as the modern image is that of goths with black makeup and hauling six foot crosses around on their necks. It was only designed to be the exact opposite of Christianity.

*cough* http://www.churchofsatan.com/ *cough*

Not that there's any relation between any bands, but if you're going to talk about satanism in general, you should probably have your facts right. Real satanics aren't depressed teenagers trying to rebel against the views of their parents. So yeah, they're all posing... But the real deal would be shut down and blacklisted by most forms of mass media, so posing is about all we ever get.

I know, just what I'm saying is it's the image that musicians and people go for. I'm talking more about the publicity ploy that it is being abused for. I don't want to talk about it as a religion or w'll get locked ;)

Personally, I can't see what all the hype is about with all these goth-punk rock bands and emo-punk bands. Quite frankly, I don't listen to any metal or goth-punk band of the sort (I'm more into trance and hard house), simply because it's not my thing. People have the freedom to listen to whatever tickles their fancy, as long as they don't try to make others, who might find their "brand" of music distasteful, try to listen to their music. This is just my opinion.

I agree; I don't see the big deal. Chances are, they're just another phase of music and in a little while, will fade away. It's just like rap and hip-hop. If sales are any representation of popularity, then people must have finally woken up and realised they're just buying the same songs over and over, so, they won't be very popular in a little while (then I'll have to change my sig).

I'm not the "musically inclined" I don't listen to a lot of music. However, when I do, I like many types music: classical, some pop, rock, metal, death metal, some country, some techno, video game and movie sound tracks. Out of that list, my favourites are classical and death metal (not a likely pair ) Also, the LotR 1-3, Silent Hill 1-4 (2's the best), and Star Wars 1-6 sound tracks are good, too. Here is a link to a video for the nerd in all of us :P (It's a musical-play-thing type group performing old Nintendo songs!)

I agree - it's about damn time all these "wiggers" woke up from the "Stoned" Age and realized that they need to get a real life. Not that this has anything to do with said topic, but quite frankly I hate rap (or "c"rap if it's mixed with country). I actually don't mind the odd hip-hop track (since hip-hop and rap are two very different forms of music, believe it or not. Hip-hop actually unifies people, while rap degrades and segregates people, especially women >:( ).

I also listen to many types of music, even tho I mention in my profile that I generally listen to trance. As long as I can feel what I'm hearing, then it's all good to me. I think the best game tune has to be "Stickerbrush Symphony" from Donkey Kong Country 2 on the SNES. If any of you are familar with what I'm talking about, that was the BGM heard on the "Bramble Blast" and "Bramble Scramble" stages in that game. Another fine-@$$ shiny tune would also have to be "Big Blue", from Nintendo's popular futuristic sci-fi "xtreme" racing game F-Zero.

A good VG soundtrack that nobody really knows about is the haunting and chilling DOOM 64 OST (DOOM 64 was the N64 incarnation of id's popular corridor shooter series, and was actually the first DOOM game that featured completely new levels, and refurbished, pseudo hi-res sprites, and even tho it isn't recognized as DOOM canon, I think it is the best in the series besides DOOM 3). If any of you have ever played DOOM for PSX, you'd be familar with the composer, as it was Aubrey Hodges who composed the soundtracks for both games.

That just looks like a bunch of Americans being completely lame.

Quite probably, but not too familiar with any european satanic cults who have a webpage or are too public with their actions. It was presented as a point of contrast between the popular "satan is cool" image that bands often present in order to sell records, and the extreme "satan is my god, I will do as he commands" which some people actually believe.

I think there are actually very few people (of which young people are the majority of this minority) who listen and take in what these bands are actually saying. I for one don't care if it's bands singing "666" or "Jesus is love" as long as it sounds good; albeit extremes of either type aren't going to go down well with me. Most of the actual pro-satan, even in reference, music is found in Death Metal which I rarely delve into; just not my thing musically.

There's quite a big Christian screamo/metal/post-hardcore scene coming up the ranks at the moment with bands like Underoath and The Agony Scene leading the forefront. I'm not Christian but really like their style; the lyrics aren't over the top and aren't constantly references Jesus, Agapé or other such "niceties" which don't quite suit the style of music.

The irony is that Iron Maiden, a band that enjoyed bigging up the devil have almost about-faced with their latest album and reference God and Jesus in a good light quite a few times. My friends and I joked around a beach bonfire the other week about how they more than likely realise they're getting old and are scared that perhaps a god does exist!

99% of it is all an attempt to sell records me thinks!

First of all, real satanism got nothing to do with the "devil" at all. It is a religion where one worship your ego. Be good to those who are nice to you, be mean to those you don't like. These statements are the foundation of satanism. The reason people connect satanism with the devil is because the church told the flock of sheep's that they worshiped Satan. Nothing more nothing less.

And I got to ask, when did Slayer become a satanic band? When did KorN become "Hardcore" or any other of those neu metal bands... Slayer is NOT death metal, it's thras.
