Skyrim and Windows X (10)

Squashy is wondering how the people who have upgraded to Windows 10 are enjoying  , (or NOT enjoying :pinch: ) , playing/modding/etc., Skyrim with this new OS?

Squashy is using win7 x64..so, the difference is likely to be significant. As an Android Phone user, Squashy expects Win10 to be similar in usability/application. To be honest, Squashy is not a fan of his phone.. :P The 'apps' have a habit of doing strange 'tricks' that are/were unexpected, sometimes!

Squashy's biggest fear is; after upgrading and testing,..he might not like it!! Then, he will have to do a clean install of his Win7...which probably will cease to be supported by Microsoft in 2yrs!! :(

Anyways, please offer any of your experiences, good or bad, here.

I like the upgrade.

I have looked around, some are having problems. Some are are getting about 5-10 more fps. Some are having the same experience. It not really that different than windows 8.

You won't lose any software, folder or files.

Back up and try yourself. However it need about an hour. You also need to be attending to press stuff.

I upgraded from W7-10. For the most part the game runs well but there are a few issues/quirks that annoy me... For example randomly the game minimises to desktop during play, this can be after 5 minutes, in a few hours or it may not happen at all. But when it does its impossible to get it back to full screen or get proper mouse control back (Windows mouse pointer is visible off centre from skyrim one during play). Sometimes the game boots up with the windows task bar across the bottom of the screen and then the same things happen... I cant get proper mouse control or get rid of it. Other than those issues which never happened before on win7 the game runs no problem and I have around 60 mods installed.

Sorry forgot to say Skyrim on win10 for me always crashes on exit as well but its 90% only when I quit the game... its annoying but not serious problem as I'm exiting the game anyway lol.

Try one tweak for the first problem.

This happened to me too while playing Skyrim, even on win 7.

Upgraded a week ago, awesome experience so far, looks amazing, runs even faster than before, alls programs seem to work the same way and some even displayed some extra features after the upgrade. I was just getting used to Win 8 so it was really insecure about doing it (postponed like 8 times) but now I hope I don't have to go back, I even deleted the Windows.old folder  . So I'd recommend you and Squashy and whoever else to update ASAP.

The new NMM is a different story tho...

I used to get minimising to desktop with Windows 8, I found clicking on the Skyrim icon on the bottom of the screen would bring up a black screen - if I then clicked in the very top left corner, then again in about the middle of the screen the game would be playable again from where it left off. Very weird. Maybe it will work with Windows 10 too ...

Well, Squashy just spent the better part of the day Upgrading..and finally tried playing Skyrim.

There's a chance he will have to go over all his .ini's, settings and such, because the game has taken to performing CTD's..again.

Before the update, no CTD's for 4hrs of solid gameplay, so, something didn't make the transition.. (besides Squashy's Internet Security Suite / nVidia Drivers / Sound Drivers / general settings.. :P )

Squashy will try working with it for awhile and see where it leads. Sure miss being able to make the Desktop Icons smaller.. :( (come to think of it, don't think that has been an option since xp, but, as Squashy still has an xp antique he uses for surfing sometimes, he keeps seeing those cute tiny Icons. )

Thanks for your input! Hope this helps others who are on the fence about 'going for it', with Windows 10!

Thanks for the tip... I have actually found the problem is caused by the Raptr AMD app running in the background, it was installed when I updated my drivers for w10. Once its turned off Skyrim runs properly so to confirm Skyrim runs fine on windows 10 for me also :-).
