Jonlissla
Ichy and Scratchy really really reminds me of Tom and Jerry. It's odd, since it was my favorite show when I was a kid, and I didn't even realise how violent it was. When I watch it now, I'm like  ! Simsons is fun, and watching a couple animes from time to time isn't bad. Just make sure you follow Vagrant0's oppinion, and you won't look strange. How funny, does everyone think you're a anime-maniac for just mentioning it? :P Seriously though, are there really people who dress/talk/walk/etc strange for watching too much anime? Oh, and when I say anime, I don't mean Pokemon, Digimon, Sailor Moon etc. I'm talking about the more serious stuff. Such as mentioned before, "Ghost in the Shell", "Samurai7" and the like. (Yes, I know Pokemon is an anime, but I really, really, hate it.)

(Yes, I know Pokemon is an anime, but I really, really, hate it.) Anime is really exclusive to being from Japan or Korea. Everything made by westerners is considdered cartoons, or animated program. Anyway, there are two ways to look at it. First is that people who do little else but sit in a room for 8+ hours a day, speaking to few others, will certainly behave in a different manner than someone who's constantly around people. The addition to being inside, and often doing unusual things, while they're alone, only makes this worse. Second, there are people who become obsessed with one thing, and center their life around it. When this thing is labeled as deviant, it makes the person look deviant as well. This applies to pretty much everything, be it work, sex, drugs, religion. That said, serious, or not makes little difference, the business of collectables in japan is a serious one, and any reasonably popular anime has it's share of related products. And don't knock Pokemon... While it's aggressivly targeted toward children, has a simplistic plot (atleast the dubbed/edited version), and makes most people cringe with disgust, it still has it's own quaint philosophic value. Sailormoon, much like DBZ, has the same simplistic plot, is geared toward younger children, but is still worth being familiar with due to how often it is parodied or referenced in other media... Then there are the people who are REALLY into it, which really makes one wonder.
ninja_lord666
There's not much to say anymore...it seems I'm a little late to add anything. I'll just say that I agree with everything that was said. Cartoons/anime are ok to watch if you're older, but not if you spend all your free time watching them. I actually (16 yrs old) don't really watch much tv in general and thus cartoons. Occationally I'll turn it on to watch Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad, That 70s Show, or Fraiser, but not often. It's usually when I have nothing to do. I'll also say that being wierd isn't necessarily bad (In some instances, I even think of it as a complement :P ), but watching cartoons your whole life...that's not good; that's beyond wierd; that's...I don't know what it is  ...because they're just like like any other decent Hollywood movie: a deep plotline, convincing and emotional characters, and settings and scenarios that are believeable. Are you insane  !? Hollywood movies suck >:( ! Some, I admit are ok, but the rest are terrible! dreadful! horrible! Some people... :glare: lol ;D
Dark0ne
Yes it's alright because I watch anime from time to time :P I love geeking out on cartoons/anime though, not quite sure why. Then again I've always been a sucker for teen flicks as well so ... meh! (note: doesn't mean they're my favourite just means I can watch and enjoy teen flicks). I love the Gundam series, mainly the modern series like Wing and Seed since they actually have quite deep backgrounds / stories. I thought Full Metal Alchemist was ok after the first few childish episodes were out the way. I enjoy some of the popular anime films like Princess Mononoke and Howl's Castle too. Haven't watched much anime recently since I'm not a hardcore anime fan -- I only watch english dubbed versions. Sure, sure, it degrades from the original jap versions but I just prefer watching films rather than reading them. Then there are the people who are REALLY into it, which really makes one wonder. While Transformers isn't anime ... http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1hq6f_co...es-transformers STILL!?

Vagrant0
I only watch english dubbed versions. Sure, sure, it degrades from the original ninja versions but I just prefer watching films rather than reading them. There are only a few series I've come across that aren't totally contrived when it comes to dubbed... Then there's Excel Saga, which although still kinda contrived, requires anyone who isn't a speed reader to watch it dubbed a few times first just to have some idea wtf is going on. But really, there are two things going on here, first is that some subbers actually take the time to translate and pick up on the nuances of the language, 4kids and similar seemingly watch the show without any audio, and make up their own lines. Then there's cutting out of material so as to not offend or upset the target audience. Both usually mean that what you see on TV, or can get at your chain video store is a poor substitute. KzinistZerg
I say, yes, it's fine. But as an adult, you ought to have far more pressing priorities than watching cartoons, whereas children often have fewer responsibilities and thus free time to watch them. Yuck, some people say it gets better when you're older, but I think they're totally wrong. First you have to pay bills, rent an apartment, pay this, pay that etc. Sometimes you wish you were a kid, (like 8-12, I'm 17) then you don't have to worry so much. KzinistZerg
Well, yes, of course. I'm fine with it so long as you've gotten everything else you need to do done.

Older cartoons are so violent and prejudice, that it isnt even funny. Ok it is a little funny that when we were five we never noticed :P . As far as animie goes, I swore the stuff of for life after breaking that nasty DBZ addiction. But I still enjoy a good episode of Family Guy or Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
