vram1974
You get to the gas station and there's all this stuff you can do but no materials. Are you supposed to pick up everything you find and then go back and break it down for raw materials for crafting? Crafting was always my least favorite part of Skyrim and it seems even more complicated here in FO4.

If you have codsworth, he is a good mule. There is also tons of guides and all options are explained.
vram1974
Codsworth said he was going to stay in the subdivision. Am I supposed to tell him to come with me?
Boombro
After you are done with what he told you.He is a good follower for goody shoes players who like to hoard and like peaceful outcomes. His lines may be cheesy for some though.
Merovign
Skyrim's resource collecting was more well-defined. In FO4 it's more random objects and junk, and you don't disassemble them into resources until you make things. BUT you can store them at crafting stations. General interface problems make it harder, and it's a lot of digging through sub-sub-submenus.
Cruusher
I just started F-4 few hours ago. Basically, my question is: I have gathered all kinds of stuff which I stored everything except weaponry in the crafttable station. And all this junk-material-lamps-coffe cups etc. also show up inside my weapons workbench. I am still figuring how to seperate all this shi#. And I have scrapped about all there is, in Sanctuary, and keep everything 'currently' in that building across the street from my old house. Does it hinder the game to keep everything in one spot or do you guys build your own containerts to seperate and itemize? Hoamaii
From what I've seen so far, only the Workshop/workstations container is a giant cloud chest. Workbenches only import content from that cloud chest or your inventory. So you need to keep all your junk in there to access it from the workbenches. Anything you put in any other containers, you'll have to pick up again to be able to use it at a workbench.
Raycheetah
Be careful. If you store things in your Workbench, they can and will be scrapped as you craft. Unless you really want all that pre-war money to be turned into cloth, or to scrap that gold watch you want to sell for caps, or those extra weapons you stashed away, store 'em in something else. ='[.]'=
UhuruNUru
Bottom line is, crafting is optional. If you hate crafting, ignore the settlement questline.Which basically means not joining the Minutemen faction. The advantage of crafting is upgraded Weapons. Which can be done without settlements. However, with the Local Leader perk, you can establish Supply Lines from one settlement to another. If you establish Supply Lines to every other settlement from Sanctuary Hills. All the linked Workshop contents then appear in the Sanctuary Hills Workshop. It's only one way though. It must be done in both settlements to be two way. Upgrading Local Leader to the second star, turns Supply Lines into Trade Routes. Allowing Stores to sell any surplus.I'm not sure how trade works, having a central market with all the stores, doesn't seem to work. So my next attempt is stores in all. They cost lots of caps to set up so many though. A full set f tor 1 settlement used up all my caps made by my level 26 Vault Girl. Who despite all the effort to voice names, is apparently called Blue! I'm in full looting mode, using the nearest container to my fast travel arrival point, as the area store. Then when I have all the loot, move it by fast travelling back and forth. So I doubt much more can be done until I loot more. The last point is a tip, if you do craft, you'll soon realise, adhesive is the component you need most.Vegetable Starch gives 5 adhesive and the components can be grown on settlements. Each of the rare components has a plentiful source or two out there. Like a fish packing factory for aluminium.A place full of Mr Handy's, one has a handy self destruct button.A place full of laser traps. As these places respawn a few days later (2 minimum?), they provide a constant steady supply, once found.
